Here's a way which describes HOW you can play cracked Left 4 Dead with friends:
1. Hamachi
- Everyone of your friends MUST install Hamachi
- Create a group which all of your friends JOIN
1.1 How to get a better ping via Hamachi
- In the Hamachi main menu, click on the right bottom button and select "Options" (or Settings)
- Now click on "Detailed Configuration"
- Enable UDP and TCP Port and write e.g. the number "12975" in it
- Forward this Port @ your Router or Firewall or whatever
1.2 (Optional: Hamachi Aliases)
- Again you go to the Settings and click on the Sub-Menu "Window" and enable "advanced peer menu....."
- Rightclick on your friends @ Hamachi and select "Advanced"
- Set "Tunneling domain" to "Hamachi"
- Set the "Peer VPN alias":
- For example: your Hamachi ID is "5.99.50.12" and the ID of your friend is "5.60.61.62"
then you take YOUR 1st and 2nd number and the 2 last numbers of your friend
- In this case the VPN alias would be "5.99.61.62"
1.3 Set Hamachi in your Network Connections list
- Hamachi MUST be on top of your network connections!
- I only found a german tutorial for this...maybe some of you find an english one :S
- Guess I will simply translate the words the best I can!
- Netzwerkverbindungen = network connections
- Erweiterte Einstellungen = Advanced Settings
On the picture you can see that Hamachi is on the 1st place and the normal LAN (or local) connection on the 2nd one
THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE!
After doing so, restart your computer!

2. Batch File
- The HOST of the game opens the "left4dead.bat" and fills it with this:
"hl2.exe -game left4dead -console -novid +sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0 +z_difficulty Impossible +map l4d_hospital01_apartment"
- Difficulties: normal, hard, impossible
- Map: Of course the map you wanna play
2.1 The "engine.dll" file
I'm not sure about the need of this "engine.dll" file, but anyway, it fixes a Steam Error you receive
- Download "engine.rar" (below this tutorial of course )
- Unrar it
- Put it into the "bin" folder of your cracked Left 4 Dead path
2.2 Connecting to a server
- Everyone who is NOT the host, simply adds "-console" into the .bat ("hl2.exe -game left4dead -console")
- Now start the .bat and once you are ingame, you type this into the console: "connect Hamachi ID" (e.g 5.99.61.62[the Hamachi ID of the host])
- HINT: You CAN'T connect if you put the same thing into the .bat as the host!

HAVE FUN

The cafe patch from page 17 of this thread seems to behave exactly like any cracked steam (Server busy errors on most games). You are still limited on what you can download. It's almost like Dynpatch or undead's patch in disguise. Maybe it's defunct already or cafe users are in fact limited still.

You can't download Left 4 Dead either with that btw.

OMG help meh plez! i was used fonix232's patch, i do everything, nad i using Undead patch 3.5, but when i want to connect to my friends lobby, it write: Connection Failed, and when i want to create my own lobby, it write: Connecting with session has been lost... =( pls help me, i dont know where i missed it (sry 4 bad english...)

Apperantly this is either global, or just us cracked out folks.
I've googled, and it seems even legit users have this problem/

But it also seems like ALL the cracked out users have this problem since last night.
I hope for a fix.

Somethings wrong for me, when ive installed the game i open up Crack Stem. Then L4D says Download Starting?
And if i try to start this happends:


I installed it using CF toolbox, and 2 ncf in other topic.

Help please

You need 4 NCF and their common files:

left 4 dead base.ncf (can be downloaded with an empty account)
left 4 dead binaries.ncf (can be downloaded with an empty account)
left 4 dead client binary.ncf
left 4 dead sound.ncf

Did you have all 4 and their common files?

for me same thing....server busy error...all ncf downloaded and 100% complete and validated

Playing Left 4 Dead with Hamachi is no solution at all. It's too constricting, needing everyone to download Hamachi. The only valid solution is the one that involves creating and hosting Local Servers for other players to come in. So if anyone has been working on that, give us an update. That would be great.

Of course Hamachi is an option, you need maybe 5 minutes to set it up and the ping is the same if you do it right

I don't think it's difficult to find any Hamachi Networks for Left 4 Dead because you only need 4 people for it.
Anyway, until a new cracked patch comes out it seems like you have to use Hamachi.
There are some different ways about how you can host and join but I think the way i described it is the easiest one at the moment

Mkay, I missed this sticky like a complete moron, and made a separate thread.

So, the thing is:

I'm posting because a friend of mine has downloaded L4D via the Demonoid Torrent. He placed the .NCF in steamapps and the 'left 4 dead' folder in common, but when he tries to run it, a message pops up saying "Failed to load Left 4 dead".

Steambuster is not recognizing L4D either. What could the problem be? Is he missing something?

Is there a thread or post with Hamachi networks? I can't find one!!

Hamachi is fairly useless (for me at least) unless there is a page with a number of networks. I found 2, but both were full.
