Watchout, this is gonna be a long topic...


Well, let me do a better guide to what I've done to have the russian release work on my friend's pc:

1- First download this torrent, it's the russian release, rus eng not cracked torrent (Akella relase, I think)

2-Then, mount the mds image you will get from this torrent (with daemon tools), then copy the entire dvd to a folder of your choice, something like that:



3-Then, download these files and extract them to the folder with the copy of that dvd

4-Run l4d2.bat and you will get a screen like that!



Wait 5-7 minutes...and you will get a screen like that...



5-Press enter and check the new folder this l4d2.bat created:

7-Extract them to your new left4dead folder, overwrite everything, and you will get a folder like...this:

8-Go to your windows clock, and change your time to the 17th of november...10:00 pm, or less than that.



9-Run the game through l4d2.exe






Changing the unknow name inside the game: Type setinfo name yourdesirednamehere on the console...




If you don't know how to enable your console...go to options> Mouse/keyboard > Enable developer console or something like that, and press "

Another method, using fyfi-13 demo client.dll suggestion and another pack xD, to those of you with client.dll problems, chainsaw problems and fireaxe-pistol problems.

Follow my steps here, untill part 5. From there, extract these files to your new left4dead2 folder: Overwrite everything...

Download and install steam, create an account on steam, and then start downloading the left4dead2 demo. You can use this command on your browser, too: steam://install/590
Once the left4dead2 demo hits 1%, turn steam off, go to Steam\SteamApps\common\left 4 dead 2demo\left4dead2\bin, get the client.dll there and paste to your left 4 dead2\left4dead2\bin.
Change your windows clock to the 17th of november, 10:00am or less than that...some peole use the 29th of october, some don't even change their clock, well, see what works for you xD.
Change game language and ingame name through rev.ini
Start the game with RUN_L4D2.exe and see if it works.

Well, that's what I've found so far:
-Works on garena
-Chainsaw is working (yup, I've managed to pick it up on single player and online mode, not sure if it works for everyone)
-Grenade launcher is working (Managed to pick it up on single player xD)
-Lasersight upgrade is working
-You don't crash when you kill a witch
-Incendiary ammo IS working
-Some crescendo events seems bugged, like the one on the parish stage 2, zombies didn't appear at all, even with the alarm ringing (it might be a once in a while bug, who knows, just played through this stage once)
-Rescue at the final of each campaign is bugged.
-Forgot to mention that, since this setup is using the demo dlls..., it will consider that you have the 1.0.1.0(demo) version, so...you won't be able to play with people running the official game (2.0.0.0 version, you will get a error like, invalid protocol expecting 1.0.1.0, got 2.0.0.0).

Well, if you can't live with that, better wait for a stable release. xD

So a "proper crack" would have to generate a working client.dll for the game on the machine it's installed on.

Do you think this would work for THEPiRATEGAY 's release? And where can I get a copy of Akella's version (torrents, if possible please).

I get 'No permission to run l4d2' when trying your method..

EDIT: I shut Steam down and it seems to work.
However, on the first campaing map where you only get Axe / pistol I always crash when using a melee weapon.
Is there any fix to that? Tried running with -lv ( low gore )

Honestly I think the only reason I haven't gotten anywhere at all is cause I was using THEPiRATEGAY version. If you're tired of repeated failure (like me) then just download the Akella version.

tried this demo-client.dll thing with the toolbox installed version and cmbx-crack and revloader

Pls help somebody, Ive got the game working after intro, Ive set the system time before oktober, the map loads, but when I use a melee weapon, 1st map 1st mission Fire Axe, I target a zombie and when I slash with the axe for its head the games stopps....PLS HELP ME!

Weird, fireaxe is working fine here.

Meh, no biggie, it's not like I don't have six thousand disposable email addresses at my fingertips.

Back to the problem, if it's the custom-generated client.dll that's making the game crash, then it's no trivial thing to reverse-engineer Steam's CEG to generate it from scratch. Until a way to completely and cleanly bypass CEG has been found, I'd think that this is the only (albeit bandwidth-hungry) solution to playing L4D2 without Steam.

Really annoying, I downloaded the Akella release on this site (7.64GB file)

and deleted it yesterday but haven't tried FYFI_13's "demo .dll" method.

So again I'm downloading the stuff... btw there're newer files released at the bottom of the Page.
I don't know what's the use of it! Maybe someone can translate it into english.
