i know there is still a little group playing, but they are mostly playing player hosted, even if thers a dedi because they cant change gamemode and map every round on dedi... creating a server is easy, just download serverfiles from steam, change steam_appid in serverfolder to 32210, create default.cfg for example now do not start server with AvP_CLI.exe, use smartsteam to start it. open ports and thats it. good luck

Confirmed, it works!
A Dedicated server is up and running, all the futures work flawlessly, including voice chat and all DLC maps.
P.s. If u want to play survivor, host a player match and tell your friends to join.
P.P.s. Atm there is only one Infestation server hosted, we need more !!!

As you can see, there is only one server hosted right now. It is running infestation mode.
When a server is hosted, a minimum of 2 players are needed to start the game (ex: DM). For other game modes such as TDM or Infestation a number of at least 3 players are needed to start the game.
The advantage of a dedicated server over a listen one in AvP is that you can always join the dedicated one, no matter wheather it is in lobby, waiting for others or in-game.
When hosting a listen server also known as a "player hosted" match, players can only join if the server hasn't yet started loading a map, thus pointing us to the conclusion that hosting or joining a dedicated server will be always better in terms of letting others join while we play.
Advice: Be patient when being the first one in the lobby, wait for others to join. Spread the word to your friends, let them know about the server you want to play on, so that they can join you and get the match started right away.
Question: What game-mode do you like the most? Is it DM, TDM, Infestation, Predator hunt, Mixed species TDM ?

nice to finaly see some progress to my detection  i was afraid that no one gives a shit  i had my server on for 3 weeks, and daily some new people on it. the problem was that people are not patient enough to wait for others, they all left after 1-2 min. a little later the next one is joining, waits 1-2 min and leaves and so on.... i even renamed the server to something like: "be patient, wait for other players", doesnt help. also a disadvantage of dedi is that you cant change gamemode every round like you can on player hosted. its hard to choose the right gamemode beforehand if you dont know how many players will be on. right gamemode depends on playerscount. and i would suggest to not start with a dlc-map because a lot of the players dont have them (dont ask me why...) they cant even see the server in serverbrowser if dlc-map is runing. just to let you know

best_matrix07 clearly stated in his post what they need and should download, including the patch that comes with both DLCs.
You can point others in the right direction, but you can't do everything for them.
Also, i tried joining the server when there was a map from the DLC running on it. You can see the server in the server browser, but if u don't have the content, it will just write "missing content" when u enter the lobby.
You can also edit the CFG "on the fly" while the server is running, including adding maps, game modes etc. There's a list of commands written in a pdf, that comes with the dedicated server, making it an easy job for every rookie to host and maintain one.
Here's how i see the whole thing: If u are to create a server, and say others will start joining, given the fact that you most likely will not be playing AvP 24/7,u need to find a " nice guy " that u can trust or a close friend and give them remote control to the server. This way, when u are not available, maybe he/they will.
I strongly belive a dedicated server is far more superior then any other player hosted server, because everyone can join, whenever they want, not only friends that u invite to your game and a very small precent of players that might just be there at the same time you(the server) are in the lobby.
Having said all of the above, I do encourage people to join a dedicated server (if there is one available), invite friends, just to get the game started...
and btw "daweed", u are right, they need to be more patient.
