Using the SmartSteam method allows you to save progress, untill you close the game. so you can do a complete run without entering the mapchange comand after each chapter, but once you close the game, all the progress is gone. |

Not working for me, can't figure out why for the life of me. Been trying for the last three days to get this to work w/ all mentioned fixes in this topic and others. What I'm trying to do is to coop with my two computers, both connected to the same router. I've forwarded port 27015. I've done sv_lan 1, coop 1, and am connecting to the proper lan ip. I've alternated connecting then hosting, and hosting then connecting, neither works. The client -always- disconnects. I've tried both Tunngle and Hamachi, but to no avail. Both copies of portal are updated and cracked for Update 1. What I did was download it, install it, then install update 1. Do I still need to download the crack after this? I assumed the crack was already in the update. Please, if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it tons. :s |

Same problem as the above poster. I've tried all solutions mentioned, inc. hamachi, tunngle, etc. Nothing seems to work. Currently running skidrow update 3 (I also tried with update 1, but the same problem) over a wireless network (if that makes ANY difference). |

I haven't tried playing coop with Update 1 or 2, but I have with Update 3 and it works perfectly. It comes with a file called COOP.cmd, all you need to do is run this file to launch the game and it will do the rest for you. There's no need to follow these steps, only if you've come to the end of a chapter and return to the lobby, then you need to use the changelevel command on the host for the next chapter. Port forwarding is only necessary when creating a server for outsiders to play in, not LAN games. For those with the port forwarding option to set TCP&UDP simultaneously in your router, try each one individually as this usually only works for consoles. For PC games, you have to create one for TCP and one for UDP independently otherwise it probably won't work. Also since gestures/taunts don't save and are reset upon each new level, I decided to create a list of console commands the host can use to unlock them for both players:
There are others that are used, but these don't show in the gesture wheel:

I think you can purchase them at the enrichment center, on a legit copy ofcourse. And btw, thanks for the commands |

Of course it depends on your router, but most routers now-a-days have the options like I stated. Take a look at the picture below: ![]() As you can see, they have options in the dropdown boxes to select either TCP, UDP, or TCP&UDP. Selecting the option to forward both at the same time, for PCs, has never worked for me in the past. I've always had to forward each port protocol individually for it to work online for other players not on the LAN. This is what I mean by set each one indepenedently, set one port for TCP and do the same for UDP again; rather than setting them both with one selection. The same thing occurs with my NetGear router, but instead of having to enter each port individually you can enter a range of ports. |

just tried the coop with a friend but i didn't get it to work properly. maybe someone can help me. here is what i did: - download the game and apply skidrow crack fix update 3 - open the udp and tcp port 27015 in my router config, one forward for each port - test the ports with a port-testing-tool, it reported the tcp-port was open, couldn't test he udp-port, but it should be open as i did the same except choose udp in the config of my router - tell my friend to connect to my ip, he used the coop.cmd, choose "1" for join, then he entered myIp:27015 and hit the enter button - use the coop.cmd, choose "2" to host a game and then "n" for lan only:NO after that his loading screen loads but never finishes and after some seconds he's getting an error: "Connection failed after 10 retries." my game loads perfectly and after the progress bar is full, a video is shown of one of the robots, but nothing more... we also tried it while with steam running in the background, but it diddn't make any difference. i don't want to play through hamachi or tunngle because your ping usually sucks. what did i wrong? Edit: Did i miss some updates? do i have to apply them? all my portal 2 ncf files are version 3. i checked if me and my friend have the same version of the game and it matched... Edit: updated my files and now i have all ncfs at 100% and valid. now applying the crack, but can't test it because my test-partner is gone Edit: found an option to test the udp port too in my port-testing-tool - it says it's open! |
