The wall of text might be intimidating but it take only a few min to set it up.
When you need to load a savegame the hexing can be done in ~1,5 min. It's not a big deal...

Nice job ahab... I'll try it. So... the only problem seems the hexing needed on our saves, isnt'?

The drilldash pick up crash and the new plasmid needed to open the door is solved?

Thanks ahab.

Yes, it works fine. New plasmid and all pickups too.

To avoid hexing the saves, the exe itself needs to be modified to skip check. I can't do that.

Extract with winrar.
You can use offline GfWLive account.
Patch, mini image included.

Readme:
-Install BioShock 2 and update it to v1.5
-Copy the content of the 'Minerva's Den DLC' to the install dir.
There are 2 small files you have to overwrite. 1 Movie and 1 audio file. I don't think this will cause problem in the original game but I included them in the backup dir just in case.
-Open 'User.ini' with text editor. Win7 Path: 'c:/Users/"USER NAME"/AppData/Roaming/Bioshock2'
-In the [Default] category find a blank key and add:
Open Minerva_A.bsm
So if you choose for example key M Then the line will be:
M=Open Minerva_A.bsm
-Start the game.
In the main menu keys are not recognized so start a new game or load any save then press The selected key- M in this example.

First map of the dlc will load and you can play.

You can Save any time you want but in order to load them you need some hexing done on your saves.
-You need at least one valid savegame from the original campaign. Win7 Path: c:/Users/"USER NAME"/Documents/Bioshock2/SaveGames

Let's say it's name is: AUTOSAVEKali.bsb
-Open it with a hex editor like: http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/f ... /xvi32.htm
-Make a selection like it is showed at 1.jpg
Important that the last selected part is:
m a i n S a v e . b s g
(How to select? Hold Shift and use arrow keys)
-Click Edit/Clipboard/Copy
-Close the file.
-Now open the savegame from the dlc which you want to load.

Let's say it's name is: AUTOSAVEDLC4Kali.bsb
-Make a similar selection like what I showed you at the jpg. Again the end of the selection is:
m a i n S a v e . b s g
-Click Edit/Block delete
-Click Edit/Clipboard/Paste
-Save the file.
-Rename the the dlc's file (AUTOSAVEDLC4Kali.bsb) to the filename from the original campaign (AUTOSAVEKali.bsb)
-Now start the game and load the seemingly original campaign file. It'll in fact load your dlc file and you can continue.

You can of course turn any dlc file into any campaign file. Just follow this guideline.

______________

I recommend you to play the first level of the original campaign and make a few savegames along the way. The game can be unstable when there are no savegames made. I know this sounds silly but it seems to be true. You'll need at least one savegame anyway.
Also recommend to leave vsync on. Turning it off can cause unstability.

@prudislav:
I don't think so. That one is not just starting maps but has some "advanced menu controls" to start specific events on the maps.
but you can use an online tricked account and go to dlc section and download it. It's free. and it's working!

Ahab, this is amazing! Will try this when I've got the time. Thank you in advance! :D

Hey!

I played a little with Protector Trials.

It's actually fully functional too.

-Get the dlc.
-Copy the SP/Content into "installdir"/SP/Content
-Add
Open PreludePool.bsm
to a blank key in the user.ini
-Start a new game and hit the key.

The first map with Trial 2 will load. (Don't ask why trial 2, don't know).
After you complete it you'll find yourself in the actual Protector Trials dlc menu.
You can play and unlock everything and you can even access to the progress menu too.
The best thing is your stats are going to get saved.
The stats are being stored at:
"random string"_UserSettings.ini
at the (win7 path):
'c:/Users/"USER NAME"/AppData/Roaming/Bioshock2'

The only negative effect of this method is when you exit the dlc's menu then you can't access it again until you play through the first map- trial 2.

Maybe it's possible to get the genetonic for the Minerva's Den DLC which you get when complete all the trials.

If anyone wants I can upload this dlc too.

Ahab, sorry to be a bother but it's regarding Minerva's Den. Could you upload the hex editor jpeg separately from the link you downloaded. I could play the game fine but I'm using Blackcat's file and I'm now having trouble accessing the my save files. I thought it was just a copy and paste the hex codes thing but it insisted that my minerva's den save files are corrupted so am not sure what I'm doing wrong here. The normal save for the original games are fine, just I can't load the saves for MD. Thank you in advance. :)

Sure I/we want it, and many thanks in advance!

One question please: I'm playing Bioshock 2 now, the main campaign (I'm about in the middle of the game, and when I finish it, I will play Minerva's den), and of course, I don't want to mess up anything. The question: I guess we can install Minerva's den DLC files you uploaded and we can still play the main campaign normally. I ask because the files overwriten... Maybe you don't know for sure.

Hope you understand my poor english, :D

What is "Blackcat's file"? The fake xlive.dll?

Thanks!

Yes, you can install (both) dlc with my method and still play the main game just fine.

I guess it's where he got the dlc. There is a fake xlive.dll for this game made by Timeslip but it has no real advantage over an offline account.

_______________

Protector Trials DLC
http://BillionUploads.com/wm1cv7bsoy2f

Readme:
-Install BioShock 2 and update it to v1.5
-Copy the content of the 'Protector Trials DLC' to the install dir.
There are a few small files overlapping the base game but they are identical. Skip or overwrite them.
-Open 'User.ini' with text editor. Win7 Path: 'c:/Users/"USER NAME"/AppData/Roaming/Bioshock2'
-In the [Default] category find a blank key and add:
Open PreludePool.bsm
So if you choose for example key T Then the line will be:
T=Open PreludePool.bsm
-Start the game.
In the main menu keys are not recognized so start a new game or load any save then press The selected key- T in this example.

First map of the dlc will load (with Trial 2) and you can play. Don't ask why trial 2, don't know.

Theoretically if you complete all trials then you get a reward gene tonic called Master Protector for Minerva's Den. For the moment I still not completed all trials so don't know if this actually works.

______________

I recommend to leave vsync on. Turning it off can cause unstability.

That's right. I got the MD from a different link than the one Ahab posted.

I have finished the trials (the basic ones not including the bonus rounds) and yes, once you have finished the trials the tonic will appear in Minerva's Den. But my copy of the Trials is a legit download and install from GWFL, so I'm not sure if playing it via Ahab's method would produce the same results. All I noticed so far from playing Minerva's Den is that it's working but if you're using an online account you will not receive any achievements.

Yes I tested it and the Master Protector gene tonic is working in Minerva's Den with my method.
You have to complete all the trials to get it.

That's it then, bioshock 2 is complete!

Many thanks ahab for the Protector's upload and the 'readme'.

Finally we can play Bioshock 2 DLCs, :D

The only 'problem' I can see is that I guess it's not possible playing MD with vita-chambers disabled, as far we cannot do 'quiksaves'...

From 30min to ~3 hours depending how you play.
Yes you can play without ever reloading your saves. Don't die or use vita-chambers (and hope game won't crash because it's not the most stable one.)

___________

Why are most of you so afraid of a little hexing? It's really no big deal!

I can't provide that solution...

You can make saves as many as you want. Only need to bother with the one you actually want to load and you can edit it in ~1,5 min....
