Hi all, I just found the most of the new games here uses retail cracks.. and I tested launching those games without steam and they are working. so I dont use steam as a launcher to those games (deleted the NCFs)
why those games need cracks ? and doesnt using cracks defeat the purpose of steam ? and maybe also defeat the purpose of not downloading retail games? because I can move the game files anywhere I want and launch it without steam.
thanks for any elaborations.

You can easily update (or fix) your games if you store them as GCF's or NCF's. I also find it better to have all games in one place. It feels more organized.

I feel the same way. Not to mention some people may find Steam's absence a good thing... remember when you could just double-click on a shortcut and get on playing?

You got a good point . I love organize my games By the company names ( like : ubisoft , square Enix ...etc ) not just in one folder called Steamapps or something like that . also you will forced to but your all games in one hard disk ( like only C or D ) Maybe will be no problem for those who have one hard disk .
Finally , It`s very stupid to connect to internet ===> log into your steam account ====> and then play an offline only game or you don`t want to play online ( like a single player story mode ...etc ) .

You can force offline mode via Steam.cfg or the INI for the crack of your choice. That works pretty well at least for the games I play sometimes.

Regarding offline mode this still requires at least connecting to steam once does it not. And i assume its not a permanent off line ?? If so eventually steam will be at a version where it will break the work around ala greenluma, smartsteam, right ???. Making these at best short term temparary fixes requiring continual updates even if the game i use it on is not updated in any way.
Ive only used revemu and loader on some games i own ie orangebox, portal , dawn of war they work fine since install more then a year ( some ) ago no updates of any sort required ??

Yes, you have to log in at least once with the "Don't save account information on this computer" checkbox unticked (which is the default) for offline mode to work. That shouldn't be a problem unless you're on dial-up or something, though.

That's also true. Maybe not that frequently, but cracks have to be updated regularly as Steam adds or changes things that break them.
If you don't want to deal with all that, standalone or scene releases of the games you want to play are probably a good idea.

Actually, it appears it was a bug, and they fixed it after 8 years. You should now be able to use offline mode without saving your login information.

To my knowledge, the use of not storing account information locally is in not allowing other people who use that computer (i.e. public computer) to log into your Steam account automatically.
