Actually, it appears it was a bug, and they fixed it after 8 years. You should now be able to use offline mode without saving your login information.

You don't get tired of being wrong, do you?

Actually Steam still requires that login credentials be saved in order to enter offline mode, and it is by design. The Steam support website confirms this at https://support.steampowered.com/kb_art ... -AGCB-2555 . This is still true as of the Steam client update of September 27, 2011.

See Image http://postimage.org/image/24h73fno/ for a screenshot of the dialog box notice.

thanks for all the replies guys,..

so then if the games with cracks are able to be launched without steam, why should I download from this forum?
I could download the retail ones.

or am I missing something ?

Yes - you are missing that most games on Steam are being updated frequently, and having them in Steam format then, with NCFs or as GCFs (or in the future, ACFs) enables you to use CF Toolbox and our updates database to update the games. Also, with retail releases, you depend on the scene groups to update their cracks.
I admit, for most people, scene retail releases or standalone releases are the way to go, as that is the no-brainer stuff that they're used to. If you like to keep your games updated, if you don't mind experimenting and if you know your way around computers, you might want to do it the way we do it here instead.

If I want to pirate a game that is on Steam, I get the content from here, update it here and then see what crack or emulator works best with it, be it scene or RIN material. I have used Steam cracks a lot in the past, but that's only for people with a lot of (pirated) Steam games.

I think the best part of cracked Steam is this.

Yes, but steam itself is getting useless for us since all new games require a custom crack to work.
Also steam updates (cf toolbox) are getting pointless too since why update when there is no crack? and when cracks get released there is the custom update from scene too.

Steamcracks and emus are only good for "old" games.

You have a point. A Steam crack that allows for plugins for cracks for specific games (and their versions) would be awesome. Even if such a plugin just used another exe to start that game.

Your screenshot from September 6 is both out of date and wrong. Not only does Valve still require saved credentials to enable offline mode by policy (see the steam support link I posted above where that fact is explicitly stated), but the Steam client itself still has the code and dialog box which enforce that policy as evident by my screenshot from the Steam client updated as of September 27, 2011.

Offline mode still requires saved credentials and always has per Valve's policy. Therefore you are still wrong.

Screenshot can't be wrong, your argument is invalid.
Also, my post regarding that "bug fix" was made before sept. 27th so your argument is invalid.
Finally, I can't be wrong, so your argument is invalid.

No, my screenshot can't be wrong because it comes from the actual Steam client. Your screenshot is of either an obsolete, incorrect, or misleading update notice from Valve's website not the actual Steam client software.

No, it proves me correct. Valve did not change the requirement for saved credentials to enable offline mode. The note in that update on the website is either wrong or is misleading. The dialog box in the Steam client software AND the notice on the Steam support webpage I cited prove it.
