Hello,
I am in need of outdated Portal 2 game, not just an outdated game that you can download from torrents. The problem with that is, in older builds/version of Portal 2, there is this glitch called "Button Save Glitch", demonstrated here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJbaNeImLvE

This glitch however got patched after the DLC came out in October 2011. Now that I need that BSG glitch working, it doesn't work with older versions.. I tried putting updates for the game (Skidrow updates, downloading game from torrents), installing the game on fresh OS/new partition, incase my orginal Portal 2 game caused some conflict with cracked game.

Reason why I need this glitch? I am a speedruner of this game and I'm doing full game speedrun with two other P2 speedruners, this glitch SAVES TIME in the speedrun, so its very important for us. You can see some of my speedruns (just for the proof) here: http://www.youtube.com/user/nclaHD

Right now I'm thinking I need fresh GCF/NCF files of any version/build that is BEFORE October 2011 and somehow launch the game magically (the glitch worked before the DLC).

I am not sure what exactly I need to download, I have no backup or something of older version, unlike this guy "DemonStrate" from SDA who did have, but he doesn't want to share the backup from Portal 2 game. http://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/portal_223_870.html#portal_223_891-

So anyone could direct me what I need to do? I know there is alot of information out there on this forum, but its way too much, so apologies. If anyone is very nice and helps me get working the game with THAT GLITCH, I will reward you with some PayPal cash or will credit you in the full game speedrun credits, because this glitch is very important to me/P2 speedruning team.

You may want to try and use the Retail ISO (if you can find it) and that should have the bug in it. I understand what your doing and to anyone else, this is not cheating per say. It's abuse of a glitch in single player play through.

Eh, seeing the numbers of the speed for that torrent makes me sad.

Wait, you want to run the outdated game through Steam? I don't think that will be possible, even if you find old files. Or maybe I somewhat misunderstood you.

The SKIDROW version is from what I know the earliest working version released for Portal 2 (that should mean it's the first officially released by Valve version, but cracked and made to be used without Steam). So if you simply download SKIDROW's Portal 2 release and do NOT apply updates to it, it should have the bug/glitch, as hegyak said.

Whatever you do, DON'T try overwriting your legit game's files and attempting to run the game through Steam afterwards, as this might lead to trouble!

The speed got better, thank god.. and I already tried that SKIDROW thing.. does not work.. if you read the post on SDA, you can see he is using some non-steam emulator thing I believe, to launch the game.

OK, I just went over the thread you posted on these speedrun forums, and here's the deal.

1. You absolutely NEED these old game files to be able to make a non-Steam (standalone) version of the game WITH THE GLITCH. Without them, you can't. That person was kind enough to give you a link to all the tools required to make it, but without the game files, they are useless to you. You can easily make a standalone using your personal game files, but then the bug won't be included and this won't do you any good.

2. The only other alternative I can think of to get this working is if you download SKIDROW's release and find an update to build 4674 (because according to that other person's posts, that is the version which definitely has the glitch). I wasn't able to find one, though, at least not one that specifically states it updates the game to build version 4674 (except one called "Portal 2 Update 15 build 4674 (2011/Repack/Ru)", but the links I found to it were all dead).

One more thing. I can see that person was paranoid about sharing his game files, but I can assure you it is safe for him to give them to you, as they store no account or client information. In other words, it's not dangerous for him or his account to share the files with you. Ask him for either the standalone he made which works (he already cracked it, so Valve can't detect it if he gave you the files), or simply the files he used to make it (these should be - portal 2 common.ncf, portal 2 win content.ncf, portal 2 client binaries.ncf and most importantly, the folder called "Portal 2" which usually resides in SteamApps/common), if nothing else works.

The game is self is just client.dll and server.dll the rest is just maps, sounds, models, materials and the source engine.

So, are you saying at 1) point, that downloading this CLONEDVD should work? (rephrasing) Or not.. Not sure what you mean by "these", that guys backup files on SDA or those that I am downloading..

About 2) point, the build doesn't match with the version 15, number 15 version is some update after the DLC came out, so its not worth diggin download link, which I already tried - no success.

I still want to try this way with CloneDVD, then I would give shot at getting the files from that guy on SDA, but one problem with that person -- he isn't one of the nicest persons to Portal 2 community.

I meant the other guy's files. This CLONEDVD/Preload version should work, but if it's the same as SKIDROW's release, I doubt it will help you.

Well, the "Steam Unlocked" torrent should include either a standalone made out of the first ever released NCF files (without a crack, most likely) or the NCF files themselves decrypted. The worst case scenario would be if this version doesn't include the glitch at all, and Valve somehow managed to add the glitch with an update afterwards (update before October 2011).

My guess however is that the "Steam Unlocked" torrent includes pretty much the same version SKIDROW used, but without a crack. So if SKIDROW's release did not work for you, I can't guarantee at all if this will.

But as I said, worth a shot. Your best chance would be to get the files from that guy, as he claims that version definitely works and has the glitch.
