It shouldn't make a fucking diffrence, I launch portal2.exe alone and it still throws that error..

Have you tried the -32bit command-line parameter to make the game run in 32-bit mode?

I might not have been clear enough, but the portal2.exe doesn't have an icon, if I apply SKIDROWs crack then it throws bunch of other errors.

I am not quite sure how and where the NCF files and game files should be stored.. what folders.

NCF files are supposed to stay in your SteamApps folder and the "Portal 2" folder inside SteamApps/common. If you do this, though, I don't think the game will run through Steam, because the files are outdated.

I just thought of another way, though. Use a Steam launcher called UCL. If the game isn't detected/won't start, try using the latest RevEmu.

To use UCL I don't think so, you just need to tell it where the NCF files are.

My question was about standalone, but okay. This is how it looked with revLoader.

And that UCL seems really old, 2010 year, Portal 2 wasn't even released then. :/

Well, fuck the standalone for now, we'll try a different approach.

To be able to launch Portal 2 through Steam or UCL you need these so called "No Cache Files" and a folder called "Portal 2" inside SteamApps/common. Everything except the No Cache Files in the last screenshot is what makes up the folder called "Portal 2".

1. Make a new folder.
2. Inside that folder copy the NCF files only.
3. Then make a new folder inside that folder called "common"
4. Inside the "common" folder make another one called "Portal 2"
5. Inside the folder "Portal 2" copy everything else from the screenshot above (except the NCF files).
6. Download UCL from here.
7. Launch UCL and navigate to Tools > Settings and after that Steam. Where it says SteamApps directory, pick the first folder you made.
8. Restart and update the Content Description Record from the Tools menu.
9. Click on Content List and find Portal 2, it should HOPEFULLY be there.

Then I have quite literally no idea, it looks like you are missing 1 NCF file from the pre-release (portal 2 client binaries.ncf), but finding the pre-release version of it alone is what I would call an impossible task.

One last suggestion, try one of these already made standalones:

- http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/6331566/ ... .Rip.-TPTB (looks like the first release, apparently you'll also need this downloaded to get it to work) (also note it's so small, because it includes no foreign languages and the multiplayer files are left unincluded, but I doubt you need those anyway)

If neither of those work, I'm afraid you'll have to wait to hear other suggestions because frankly I'm all out of them.

Just had an idea, while cleaning my cats place lol (crazy huh), what if the DVD discs for PC has maybe some older game files, somewhat working? Just throwing ideas.

I helped NCLA get the version working. It involved getting revEmu working correctly.
