I built my own CS:S GCF standalone for my friends so we can do LAN party. Myself I'm using legit Steam client.
On my first attempt my friend can find my LAN server in LAN browser, but he can't join. There's an error "LAN server are restricted to local clients (Class C)."
So he hosted the LAN, but I can't find his server on LAN Browser. I still can play by using connect command to his network address though.
There's two questions there. How can RevEmu join with my LAN server with legit client? And vice versa?
Another question,
If I change player name via editing rev.ini the game won't start because it seems can't find the game content (Unable to load materials). I should edit the file from my computer then transferred it again to my friend, which is a pain.

I guess, you are not on the same net as your friend, are you? The answer to this plays a role on answering the others. About the content loading (with rev.ini) you may want to use relative paths instead of absolute ones.

What do you meant I and my friend are not on same net? We are using ad hoc LAN wireless to connect. Playing LAN went fine, but he must host the server and I should connect by connectip command.
Btw I'm using relative path for my GCFs. Because if I didn't, it would break the portability then.

Okay, the message you mentioned normally appears, if you are not the same subnet (like playing over Internet). You can check that out by looking your both IPs. You can, however, connect to the RevEmu server, since RevEmu patches the server automatically. The other way round does not work, because your server is not patched, as you are playing legit. The best thing would be, if you set up a dedicated server and patch that one with RevEmu, so you don't have to worry about your legit Steam client.
I don't get the second question, though.

I would try to set up a dedicated server and see if that could work. Thanks As for second question..say, every time I'm editing rev.ini it would break the game. In GMOD, it would causing "NO STEAM APPS" error, and in CS:S it can't find the materials data. It seems that when I edited out rev.ini, the emu can't find the GCF correctly. I should rebuilt my standalone to make that work. Strange, indeed. -- Edit -- Disregard that issue, now I'm using extracted GCF standalone. Rev.ini editing not being an issue anymore By the way does HL2 files really needed by CS:S? If not, what folders should I delete? Also how do you make "name" command work, just like in Setti version of CS:S

Vin_TC wrote: By the way does HL2 files really needed by CS:S? If not, what folders should I delete? You can check that very easily: Delete (or better rename) the folder, start CSS, use functions (load a map, open settings menu, etc), check the console for material errors. Then you know the needed ones. Vin_TC wrote: Also how do you make "name" command work, just like in Setti version of CS:S You need a plugin called NameEnabler or something like that; you can find it here somewhere.

Thanks, it sure needs take some time to check all files and folders. Guess I'll leave it what it is. Well I found this tool viewtopic.php?f=29&t=59134 but the link is dead. Perhaps someone have a mirror? For Name Enabler, I tried this plugin http://didrole.free.fr/Name_Enabler/ but it just closes my CS:S at loading screen, without showing any errors.

I guess there is topic about that one around here, you may post there.

Here's a mirror. I wanted to upload it as an attachment, but kept on getting a connection reset error. Hope it helps! - http://BillionUploads.com/9r9u3yvgxxi7/RipIt_.rar.html
