Until update 4 Steam was not needed, an emulator did the job. you can probably use any emulator with our cracked exe. the reason we chose to use steam instead of an emu is that with steam you get a working server browser + friend invites and things.

WHen using a steam emulator. Is it possible to see the dedicated server in the LAN browser?

This game is awesome. I hope they announce a sequel soon. The gameplay is excellent and rarely unfair.
