Ultimate General: Gettysburg is a Tactical Battle Simulator that allows you to lead thousands of soldiers in the famous Battle of Gettysburg as commander of either the Union or Confederate army. The game features the most accurately created map, detailed order of battle, complex morale, and innovative control mechanics.

Since no one has the game to judge for ourselves, we must rely on the videos, and reviews to help make up our minds about purchasing the game.

Cheers.

looking foward for this game.
my favorite game series were total war (until rome II) and in part it was because of this guy mods which were the most balanced between fun and realism.
one of this game's strong suit according to himself it's the AI - which is probably the major flaw of every big game released since the mid 2000's: shinny graphics, cool gameplay, sometimes a decent story but pretty much always a bad to mediocre AI.

let's see how this goes.

I feel the same way. It's hard to tell by watching videos, and reading reviews. I'd rather give the game a test drive first before plunking down my money. I have to see if anyone places it up for download, I'm behind the try before you buy method.

There is only one game that has the best A.I for Command Simulators, and it's called "Scourge of War Gettysburg". It has simply the best A.I known to date.

Cheers.

Does anyone have Ultimate General: Gettysburg not cracked? I mean I'm very new to all of this try before you buy, and I don't even know where to start to crack the game, but I am willing to try if someone can pass along the original.

Anyway, I know everyone is busy since it's summer, and I appreciate the time it takes for folks to crack games.

Cheers, and Thank You ahead of time.

-- Edit --

Here are three videos of Union Mission 1 to 3.

Union Mission 1 (youtube) http://youtu.be/i4_V7Zvq404
Union Mission 2 (youtube) http://youtu.be/nOQhjYkn6OU
Union Mission 3 (youtube) http://youtu.be/d7RjEs6n-sc

I have to say this game is really very cool. It's along the same vein as Sid Meier's Gettysburg, and that was one heck of a great game.

Enjoy.

The game DRM is strange, it dosent have a steam_api.dll file and protection id says the game has the drm: BoxedAppPacker.

The game doesn't start without steam and i have tried using the ali emu without luck.

I will try to upload updates when they gets released.

Thank you. I have no expeience in cracking anything but I will try by using emu. I think it will take someone far greater than me to do it though.

I'll let you folks know if I get it working.

Cheers, and thank you.

TerryA, are you sure that you packed all files? There must be "Managed" folder in "Ultimate General Gettysburg_Data"...

BoxedAppPacker is probably just an in-memory self-extractor of some sort. See http://www.boxedapp.com/boxedapppacker/ If somebody reuploads this Generals.rar to a place that doesn't require Potentially Unwanted Programs (crap download managers) just to DL the files, then I might have a look. I suspect cracking this game is rather easy after unpacking it.

Yeah, I discovered that if I uncheck "By downloading the file you agree to our terms of service. Download you file easily with Billion Uploads download manager." then I can download the file directly without their stupid DL manager. In other words, if I don't agree with their TOS... then I can download anyway... and with less hassle.

I'll see what can be done about this BoxedApp thing once the DL finishes, although most likely that will be tomorrow.

Not really. The extraction performed by 7zip isn't helpful. Most of the content is in the .bxpck section of the exe and 7zip doesn't extract from that, it only extracts the whole section as one file which isn't of much use. After a bit of googling, I found that that BoxedApp is the "Russian alternative to Thinapp", which is to say a pretty obscure product. I haven't found a working, off-the-shelf extractor for it insofar. BoxedApp has an API document on their site, but no details about their internal storage format. I suppose the way to go about this is to run it into a debugger and list all the assets and then call the functions to dump them out. Except the symbol table is stripped of course and the BoxedApp SDK is linked statically, which makes this a bit more involved.

The game's other asset files are standard Unity assets. (Unity is a game engine.) The main exe actually identifies itself as UnityPlayer in the manifest, and I think BoxedApp was added on top of that.
