for your info,
kactus did a repack which is around 4 GB only, install size not even 8 GB, videos are perfect.

Here is a screenshot from the sample they provided.
And here is original.
This can be called "passable for some individuals" but nowhere near perfect. Basicaly if you look closely (not on these screenshots) you'll notice that all that shady texture is blurred out. Blockiness is also more noticeable on more fast-moving things than this bridge.
Now upscale it to the fullHD monitor, or many people have even bigger monitors now... all this blurry and blocky mess will be way easier to see. I expect some more complex videos than this one to be worse, but don't feel like downloading the whole thingy to check them out. Personally I wouldn't call it any good even when watching at 720p display.

Nice, seems like some pixelation filter to produce 16-bit videos. ^^ In this comparison, the new videos looks very bad, never saw any videos with such big blocks anywhere, not even on phones or anything.

well, i had mass effect 2 repack, probably blackbox, those videos were bad, like often i was not even able to see whats going on, because it was so fast and the bitrate so low that i just so pixels.

for this game, videos are perfect, meaning its a clear picture and you dont miss anything whats going on.
i have a laptop so my screen is not big, i get that, but for the size being so small now its actually very good.
i would have not downloaded the full game, but i am glad i have it now because its very good.

I get that you're trying to convince me, and probably yourself too that these videos are not bad because for whatever reason you can't download bigger release.
I can agree that they are not bad for their size and most likely it is not possible to make them better. But in general they are bad (an the source ones aren't perfect to begin with). Just because even crappier videos exist somewhere, it doesn't makes these ones perfect.
I judge the video quality compared to the source. You take the best you can afford and call it perfect. Let's agree on calling them "perfect for Dawe80". :8=)

Luckily I haven't seen videos so bad that you can't even see what's going on ^^

mass effect 2 repack was a perfect example, trust me.

the pictures you posted, i did only see scenes like the picture on the left, and you see its almost the same, the other 2 pictures i havent seen ingame, i agree they look worse.
i am not far in the game so i cant tell about that but the scenes so far were nice.

Lol, that's the 4 variants of the same picture. You're not going to see them in-game like this. Stuff on the right shows separated yuv planes and is supposed to explain why kactus version looks like crap.
Anyway, almost the same? Please... they're nowhere near the same. You have unbelievably low standards if you can say that. My own standards aren't particularly high though. Many people from movie and anime scene will call it unwatchable and shift+del on sight.
If you got used to watching some trash instead of movies so that these videos look "perfect", that's your problem dude.

Edit: There's 2 key points about these videos:
1) blocks easily visible with naked eye
2) pencil stroke-like texture (very important texture for the overall feel!) is blurred out.
while these are present, videos don't qualify to be "good" or "perfect".

There's nothing you can do to disprove that, so this is the end of discussion.

there is easily noticeable difference without enlarging. whatever you simply trolling me, or you need a laptop with not broken display.

i did screenshots and put them together,
Yes there is a little difference in color, but kactus one is definately not pixelated.

edit: zippy has preview, sweet!

well I would say videos are acceptable for that size, or for the download bandwith/time, and for people who is used to use repacks that has encoded videos. Of course it's pixelated, there is not any way to recode a mpeg video to ~20% of original bitrate without making it pixelated ::D

  • z10yded: 8/10 (Self-made source code)
  • RG Revenants: 9/10 (Author of all repack tools)
  • Seyter, RG Mechanics: 8/10 (Proper compression)
  • KaOs: 8/10 (Great (but lossy) compression)
  • CorePack: 8/10 (Fast release, grate compression, but sometimes incorrect nfo about ripped files)
  • AGb: 7/10 (Fine, but the installer is pretty ugly)
  • Dz Repack: 6.5/10 (Not the best compressor but very fast release)

Honestly I tried to have a civilized discussion with you, but it seems this is not possible. I don't want to insult you, but what you saying is bullshit.

for anyone who will have enough patience to read these few posts I can sum up the points I made:
To make videos smaller we absolutely have to sacrifice quality.
Unless it will be possible to use some video format that is not 22 years old, it won't be possible to achieve better results.
The videos in kactus release clearly reflect that.
I can't deny that kactus may did their best to keep the quality high given the size they achieved, but compared to the source it looks bad and a few gigs of saved space are not worth sacrificing quality of the videos that are one of the most important parts in this particular game.

Dawe80, lossy video quality is always subjective. I gave you as objective response as I could by pointing out obvious issues with the videos visible with a naked eye. I also provided a histogram that shows what exactly wrong with these videos. I feel sorry for you if you can't see the difference, but that's about it. Have a nice day.

This is exactly my point/ I'm not saying that kactus release is shit. I'm saying that no way these videos can be called "perfect"
I do not care about the size. Why few gigs size even makes a difference? I am comparing re-encoded videos to the source videos. Nothing more, nothing less.

you are right, i just meant its enjoyable. i have had very tough years and am all behind, i dont know what kind of screens you all use nowadays, must be huge.

well to me all kackus losy video looks really bad(this one not the usual horrible ones but just bad) - nice size change but the blocks are too visible and its too bulury - especialy those black lines which messes up art design

well indeed it saved ~ 13 GB of download, maybe to you it's not worth, but to me or the others who have low bandwidth, it does worth  Of course he can see the differences between encoded and original videos, but to him (and me too) it's not too much to get 13 GB more to download.

As far as I understand, he means "perfect" compares to his expectation, because may repacks that encode videos to lower bitrate, usually 50% of original, make video much much worse.
