CS.RIN.RU - Steam Underground Community

Last time I used cs.rin.ru was back in the 2004-2006 and I remember cracked Steam clients... able to download unlimited games.

Does this client still exist, or is it not possible anymore?

steam uses subscription authentication to check if you own a game before you can download it.

as far as I know nope.

I am also pretty sure that it never has been possible to download most steam games you don't own, with a cracked steam that would just show all games available you still couldn't download 90% of them. I also used the same cracked steam client back when, but you still had to download the .gcf files seperately to play the game.

Then you probably remember playing Source games online on legit servers with a Half-Life 1 account

Anyway, Zaron is correct. Valve changed the format game data is stored with a few years back, and as a result, you can no longer download any of them through cracked Steam - not even the classics that were always available, as long as you had that minimum set of GCFs. Games are playable if you can get the files through other means, though.

SteamUp! was one of them I think

SteamUp! was created few years later. If I remember correctly, I recall reading an ancient thread way back then on my early time at rin about cracked steam was able to download every games before they patch and limit download to only owned games. Is this a fact?

We're talking about things like CueSteam, Steam-Down and ppatcher here. SteamUp is way newer than that

syahmixp, in the very early days of cracked Steam, you were indeed able to download and play all games on any server. Valve then implemented the "ownage error" to fix this, patched the HL1 method I mentioned above, and added server-side protection for GCFs.

For some time a "ticket fix" was the dream of many people, but of course, it was not doable. Playing cracked games on legit servers used to be possible only if the authentication servers were down (e.g. during that December 2006 storm), and perhaps still is, though I'd expect Valve to have improved their infrastructure and redundancy to the point it would never happen nowadays.
