I hope this won't happen About your post, well I already knew most of it, so nothing new for me here. I don't think I have to say anything about it. Except that everybody who is interested in/cares about cs.rin.ru forum should read it.
@topic: Why am I still here? I have bought all games I'm still playing sometimes (well it's TF2 only). To be honest I don't know why I'm still visiting this forum...
Edit: Just realised the question is "Would you ever leave the community", completely forget it after reading ResR's post. Answer: I don't know. It depends on what happened.

If this forum were ever wiped out by like, "acts of nature" or "work of the devil", I'd like to forget and move on, but instead I would do all I can to bring it back. I mean, I do have backups, but they wouldn't help without a server. My situation is a lot like yours. I barely play games nowadays, and without any access on this server, my motivation is at zero at the moment. I have a massive, massive amount of ideas and already thought through ideas again and again. Realizing them is a whole different thing. There's nothing that makes me say "damn, I want to spend weeks on RIN stuff again". I've done that, but in the end, not enough people are interested in this and I don't see more than a handful of people feel motivated to make things better. And it's not about skills. It's about the determination and time (and working server!) you need to spend on content (tutorials, wiki articles, restructuring, rules rewriting, filtering bad threads from all sections), careful consideration of your options in general, spotting needs or useless things.. I have spent hours alone just looking at RIN, only imagining what kind of improvements are necessary, how they could be pulled off, how they would look, what should be avoided and considered, pros and cons, applicability, often also extremely small details. But in the end, reality is that when I wanted to look at the code for something and try things, I get reminded of the fact that I simply can't upload any changes and don't know when I can again. Frankly, people, that demotivated and demotivates me completely to do anything at all. And I have seen it in the past - a lot of times when I had spend time on something new, it was barely used/appreciated by 3 people at max/not noticeable or mostly, didn't have the influence on community activity that I hoped for. That developes a sense of "why am I even doing this anymore, I could do something less frustrating and senseless". I know exactly what needs to be done here, but the time when I would spend my entire holidays to do it all alone are over. Simply, what we are missing are more motivated people. Motivated people motivate others. At least I am motivated by.. motivated people. Makes me go like "aha, someone actually cares, they deserve my dedication". Too often have I thought "if I update and announce this and that, people will see there are things going on and will be around again" - doesn't happen. And then fags come and tell me that if I just use the most fancy software in the world and dump everything even remotely dated, that would bring greatness all over. No thanks, seen that, tried that. Whining is easy, forum old, full of disorganized information, confusing, noobs, russians, bla bla bla. Well excuse me, even I have a life. It's impossible to fix this forum single handed. I'd still be doing lots of stuff here if it weren't for unacceptable server condition and owner behaviour, andmost importantly, A LOT of things would have been done already. In 2007, my motivation was endless, I was so determined to work my ass off here. But more than 13 months of shitty begging and nothing happening are making even me feeling that it's just wasted effort I know this rant is completely out of place, but this needed to be said. I also know that something else other than magical, infinite motivation and dedication coming from the staff isn't exactly motivating either, but to be honest, I'm done with carrying that weight. An admin maintains a forum, but the users make it up. In the past, RIN didn't really have any admin, but people still managed to keep things running even if someone left or went on vacation or anything. I don't have this feeling at all, nowadays. I mean what would happen if PJG and Kajanis, for example, died in a car accident? Who'd do that hell of a SCS job? Single dedicated AND "willing" user $x? No, he'd need to be made moderator. Oops. Disclaimer: This goes to all the people that complained about things that are bad here, behind my back. Don't feel insulted if you think that you help a lot and that my judgement and perception are false (for example, everyone that just posted before me is a valueable member). Instead, consider the 90,000 others who it might apply to.
About losing posts, I have lost around several hundred posts once. They float in a recovery-thread somewhere in the archives, out of contexts. That sucked.
Sorry for blowing the thread out of propotion, b00t.
Damn, I really wish the magic to return! The realization of the promise that we'd get a new server would be a great start for that, too..
tldr

CPAMX I've got nothing against you, and you know that, but do you have to be so damn childish against RessR? -- If my post were deleted Ill join again, but I must say that I wouldnt be as active. Ive bougth my games, tested nearly all stuff so I dont really know whats still keeping me. I came here in my "OMG I MUST PIRATE FKING EVERYTHING" period. (I still pirate useless stuff like software(you know those you only use once)) I guess its the sake of the community, my friends and enemies, and the cool thing about actually see how the other part of Steam community is doing. And the fact that I can test out new Valve games before most users worldwide. Like I might get L4D2.
RessR I highly appreciate your work on this site. I dont know how I would have got my stuff if cs.rin.ru didnt existed. (Concerning the ZCP/last drama thing. You do know that I havent talked behind your back, and is not against cs.rin.ru? I am a member of ZCP and know most people there, but Im not leaving rin. I mean Ive talked about how shitty the server was, but who hasnt? :)) There is nothing to see! Nothing! Just pass on non admins!
Keep on living, rin!

I've read Ress post too and it's really interesting for me to read what was going on before i joined this community. Btw why don't you have any access on this server?
On topic:
If all my posts would be deleted, i wouldn't care about that i would simply go on like before. the reason why i visit this site daily is that i can improve my English knowledge here and I'm very interested in what happens next with this community. I play steam games all day but i don't need to crack them because i own all my games and all games i wish to own (il)legally.

I wonder why I'm still here, I own the games I play on Steam (Orangebox, left4dead1 and 2), so can't really say I need to do all of this. I'll probably leave one day, then agian only other forums I've been this long on and left was 1 that i decided was going nowhere, and another that seemed dead.

Seems like a lot of people feel similar about it - not particularly interested anymore, but sort of still liking the forum and their doing on it. Not really knowing why they're still here, having RIN as part of daily routine, coming to see what's going on with it, improving english and so on. I have or had all these as well.

Yes, he does. He's trying so hard to piss me off and make me look bad since years ago now I can just never understand why everyone's like "aah, I've got nothing against him". Well how about you start looking beyond the cracking skills and judge a bit. Start with the posts, lol. And then check some history about the guy and you'll understand why he's the only one I've ever been on really bad terms with in this community.

You wouldn't. RINs existence is not my beer though, keep that in mind.

I don't, and it really doesn't matter now. But to understand me, you may have a look at the post above yours, then look who is admin here and who is admin there and then think again. You guys can make forums for whatever reasons you wish to name, but shortsightedness and defiance is all over this one. We are doing this thread a favor if we don't talk about it and to make that easy, I won't reply about it. It's really not worth ranting about anymore anyway.

Look, I don't really have time right now to read all the posts here (specially Ress' one) because I'm working on a school work for tomorrow.
I wouldn't leave the community at all. RIN has helped an infinite number of gamers to play the best internet games ever made (specially Counter-Strike)
In fact, to be sure I won't, I even made another forum just like this one. For those who still don't know, my own forum SourceXperts is a spanish version of this one. This way, the community is expanded widely to South America

As a nobody in these forums, I don't have room to speak on any of the things mentioned in this thread. (and yes, I read it all )
However, I will say I am VERY thankful this place exists. I will never know the frustrations you've endured, and valuable time spent in efforts to keep things going around here.
I would never *willingly* leave the community unless asked to do so by the staff. I may seem to vanish on occasion, but that is only because I'm enjoying the cornucopia of software made available here by the selfless uploaders and section caretakers. Since my join date, I have experienced nothing but great reading, helpful people, and fun gaming. If it came down to RIN dying, I would step up and participate any way I could in order to prevent or delay it, just as some other members would.
A twist of fate, and a shitty PBay rip of GMOD led me to this place, and it was love at first click. When we're not out paying for shitty food in an expensive restaurant, or engaging in simulated reproduction (as the Combine would put it ), my girl and I have fun times making stupid shit in GMOD on our LAN. Sure, we could pay for the things we have, but that means even shittier food in a shittier restaurant.. So for that, her and I appreciate all the time and effort expended in the name of RIN. You take the load off us regular people who want to enjoy the fun stuff in life, but don't have the liberty of using our rent/food money on $team shit.
Thank you, caretakers of RIN Thank you, uploaders/coders/crackers Thank you, to those who are here just to bullshit in OffTopic Thank you, to those who are here but don't have to be, or don't know why they're here
TLDR, I know.. thread has enough of that already, so I'm gonna sign off on that. heh

Yes I read this topic too and... I am eating cookies and Hello fabricated DRAMA.
Ressourector dearest, your post is so incredibly!!! long to read. Btw boot, I am hanging on to this forum since 2003 and I can tell you exactly why I keep on coming back here. It's this sexeh theme that is sprinkled with win powder. Then there's also the wicked name of the site with 2 letters a period 3 letters a period and then 2 letters again 2.3.2, it's a conspiracy I say. It's like a catch phrase. I am rining, a riner, rintards. It's the official international brand of steam hacking sites. "Welcome to rin, the site made of win" I mean just look at the sig of that guy that posted above me, he actually took time to write rin with breen in gmod

Well I learned a long time ago that this is a hard community to leave, my life changes so much that at times I have no time for rin, and at other times I have perhaps too much. Fact is that regardless of that I always visit at some point during a month. I've heard it time and time again, it's a drug, it's a routine, well for me it's just simply a part of my life. Rin's made me laugh, proud, angry frustrated, it's a damn relationship - solid grounds for the younger members to experience what life will one day deal you in spades.
I guess that's what I like - it's more real than anywhere i've been before online. It's not all false smiles and meek gestures, it's harder than that, and ultimately more rewarding if you take the time to fit in.
The age gap between oldeast and youngest members here is probably quite wide, Yet it's this mix that keeps it interesting in a way, gives all who visit a chance to evolve.
I have always said that you can learn something from each and every person you meet in your life. If you hold that thought, then things start to open up to you a little bit more, and become more rewarding.
I read all of this thread, this is really the only off-topic stuff I get involved in as I like to see honest opinions and valid discussions, you start to see the real people behind their online masks, and you start to realise that most feel exactly the same way as you.
So, it's hard to say if I would leave or not. Maybe I will just fade away, maybe I will become more active once again. Whatever, the point is that it is what it is, it's undecided, unknown, and that's what keeps my attention.
I'm sure that the Rin story will continue to be written by the next generation long after all of us have finally gone.

I visit RIN at least once every day, it's simply a part of my every day routine. I have seen posts which made me smile, laugh, which made me proud, embarrassed, happy, angry, .... Only REV and RIN could give me that, there is no other place... Simply because there are many friendly people. I doubt I will ever leave, and I support Mitsu's words - "I'm sure that the Rin story will continue to be written by the next generation long after all of us have finally gone."
We evolved from smart users with dumb terminals to dumb users with smart terminals.

Fully intended. I like serious discussions and rants, we should have more of them.
I recognize a lot of what Mitsukarina feels about this place for myself. I could quote sentences now, but I agree with everything he said. How it's part of my life, how much I have learned about others, how unique it is. My last hope is that we will eventually, ever, get a final solution for all technical problems, whenever, but I hope we will. That and faithful members make me continue. Because for me, it's about the place and my duty for it and my pride about fulfilling my duty and not give up, not about my need of Steam cracks. If we give up here, a great community goes to waste and a very important piracy-base as well. Steam is getting so big that some companies already complain about Valve becoming too powerful. We have to remind ourselves that we could control that a bit, too. On the other hand, if Steam gets to essential for gamers, things on the piracy site might also grow again, but I don't see that happening yet.
