I think that the most basic point to make is that no matter how great the engine is, the game itself must first be enjoyable. It does not matter how advanced the engine is. Just admit how fun it is to get eaten by the monster in SkiFree.

The Doom engine is invincible. IDDQG!

Yes the games must be cool first, then the engines.
Btw it's IDDQD

@Mr.Deviance
If you're working in video games industry you wouldn't be hating the engines so much.
You talk like the graphic is the most important thing in games.
You know, it's not easy making whole new engine.
So, a game developer is looking for engine that looks good, it finds the engine and it works with it.
Thats one, second is, you can't make a game that requires some 8 core cpu and quad gpu and expect to have profit.

The more they play new games on the same engine the more they will discover patterns in that engine's limitations and they will start to get bored of those games.
I'm sorry, but that's kind of ... wrong. Different games on the same engine can provide a completely different experience. You play the game, not the engine.

With that and his post on the other thread I'm surprise his signature doesn't have some sort of advertisement link.

Either that or some thread in that way, but his posts don't contain such a thing either.

I noticed that people were going all crazy about Mafia II and decided to try it just to see what's all the fuss about. Honestly, I wasn't looking forward to it AT ALL, I didn't have any expectations AT ALL, but after trying it, yes, so far, I like it.

Haven't played yet, but that must mean you haven't played the first Mafia? It's probably much better in comparison. It's an awesome game.

Back at the day,I was looking forward to GTA IV.At least now I know that my hype was well deserved, too bad I didn't even had a chance to play it.But I've watched some gameplay and I just can't wait to play it myself.

I used to play GTA Vice City when I was little in cyber cafes. Then I got a PS2,around the time GTA San Andreas came out and I regretted that it wasn't the first game I played on it.Then I played GTA Liberty City Stories which truly disappointed me,because I thought it was a sequel with more features, but no it was a prequel to GTA III,a game which I never played. Then I got GTA Vice City Stories which healed the wound, but still couldn't beat GTA San Andreas.Too bad my GTA San Andreas disk was damaged and I ordered a copy like 2-3 years later, but that turned out even worse,so I never got to the second town of San Andreas on PS2.So after I got my PC in 2008,I immediately begged my friends to give me a copy of the game(pirated of course). And then I finally got to complete the game. However at before the last mission I had to take over the 1st town (Los Santos),which is what I've done on the PS2 more times then I can count,I tried to complete the objective but it got dull and boring and I moved on.8-9 months later I tried launching it,but nothing happened, back then I didn't know what was causing the trouble,I had a suspicion that it could be because I installed DX10 on XP.I still don't know.In March when I slapped Windows 7 on my rig I immediately got back to completing it,but from the beginning, because I used cheats last time and in April 2010 I finally completed the storyline all that was left is to get 100% completion which took me 2-3 months, with looong breaks in and between.
Now,again I'm trying to complete the storyline, but at the same time I want to ease my task to get 100% again,it's just my dignity :-|

And now back ontopic: How can I look forward to a game that I can't play. And the big titles that everyone gets hyped up about are next-get games, which I can't play.

Yup, the feeling is... like sucking someone's balls while he pukes on your head. The solution, buy a new computer. Or better yet, buy a console.
