x3jaibreak seems to have been confirmed to be real too, and it's said that it will cost around $65, haven't seen any videos of it yet:

Also, there's this:

lol

anyway, ps3jailbreak and x3jailbreak are real. ps3jailbreak was the first to come out.
it's quite weird how it operates, some ppl say they used code from some servicing tools leaked from sony employees maybe, but it might be false.
it's not quite clear how it works.
haven't been reading about it much anyway.
just weird how a commercial product came out 1st this time around, i was expecting a genius like humma_kavula, booster or dark_alex in psp scene to crack it first. (just examples, they've all quit [maybe])

and was geohot's work useful at all? [first supposed ps3 exploit]

From engadget:
Quote:
Poor, poor Sony. First PSJailbreak splayed wide the PS3's security model, now PSGroove has arrived calling itself the "open source PSjailbreak." The code must first be downloaded and installed onto a $30ish AT90USBkey or a $25ish Teensy++ USB development board. After that, homebrew enthusiasts can then execute unsigned third-party apps and games on their PS3. At the moment, the ability to boot ISO files (read: pirated or "backup" games) is temporarily disabled. But we're sure that some of the internet's more nefarious types will find their way around that. Cat, welcome to the world outside of the bag.

Sweet, finally a decent documentation of the exploit, thanks.
And as for PS3Groove, i guess from now it's only a matter of time before homemade USB dongles will be made for other purposes than homebrew.

I guess it's going to be gg for sony pretty soon.

I'm waiting for the PSGroove to be ported to the PSP.
Or TI-84

Hopefully soon. :)

It's not as if Sony had no ways to mitigate this anyway. I doubt it will catch up. However, even if it did, the Xbox 360 had this, and the Wii even serveral times. The consoles are still very profitable and the piracy rates still low.

Piracy slowly beings, scene and p2p groups like HR, BHTPS3, Deluxe and Maze are already releasing games.
Seems like for now the games are nothing but rips (probably ripped using the "Backup Manager") that were meant to be loaded from a HDD.

Sony seemed to have patched the exploit in the new update 3.42:

Not updating if that wasn't obvious?

TI-84 ports out. I'm using it right now to backup my friend's 43GB copy of FFXIII.
