CS.RIN.RU - Steam Underground Community

Has anyone taken a look at a service called Impulse? It's a game catalog like steam, but also has apps. Stardock owns it, the same people who make all the theming tools and eyecandy for windows. Uses a stand alone client/downloader. Seems a little more indy oriented than steam, which I think is cool..

I remember hearing about this but I don't recall much about it. Last I heard it was in Alpha/Beta.

Doesn't look beta anymore There doesn't seem to be a check on the server to see if you actually own the game or not, it's all done by registration key for each game. I did get a random key I found for AI War to register, but every other key I tried for everything else failed. I think at least all the older games use an impulse specific key. There's a lot of the older games there that didn't have an install/cd key to begin with.

Seems a little odd for them to email you a key, just so you can punch it back into their registration system though... As opposed to just putting an ownership flag on your acct or something. Dunno.. I haven't really looked behind the scenes to see whats goin on yet. Sounds like a project for tonite

I bothered to look at that link. I remember hearing about this. It has DRM free games on it at great prices. I hear the CEO is on IRC a lot.
