Hello.
I have WRT54G with flashed DD-WRT v24-SP2 mini (based on linux)
So my problem is a little bit complicated.
Sometime ago i was able to login onto my router without any problems with default login and password and wep key,
but from about 2 weeks i can't login with this data to the control panel or telnet and wep encryption has disapeared from the wireless lan.
Now people are connecting to my and my neighboors network and internet is very slow.
So normally i will propably go and reset the router but here everything complicates.
Router is located in the basement so 3 families are able to connect to it wireless with fair signal, and door's are locked by house owner and he has gone to the family in other city for 3 week's so we can't acces it.
Is there any way of restoring login details? We are scared of hacking please help.

Unless there's a vulnerability that allows you to retrieve the router's password over the network, then I don't think so. Based on what you've told us, your best bet would be to kick the door down (or call a locksmith to open it for you) and physically reset the router using the "hole" on its back.

You should never leave the default passwords unchanged, I hope you've learnt that now.

why wep? it's crackable in 5 - 30 minutes with blacktrack! you should've better chosen wpa2 for more security! well i think you have to wait for the house owner to get rid of this problem. in the mean time try to protect your data as good as you can

Yeah, reset the NVRAM per 30/30/30 reset. Problem? You need physical access to it. If the firmware is bricked or that doesn't work, you will probably need to JTAG it. (requires physical access, too)

True, WEP uses RC4 and leaks IVs, there's no real security in there. However, it is a common fallacy to think that WPA or WPA2 add really much more security. If you're using TKIP (which is based on the same broken RC4), you're not really safe either. While so far, no IV leaks have been found in these, WPA1 has a few security problems on its own. The best is to use AES-CCMP with WPA2, and if possible using an external, stronger authentication with RADIUS. Any PSK-based encryption has the problem that there is only one key, and if that gets lost at some point (the more users got it, the more likely that is), you can circumvent the whole encryption.
