i know two tools that can help you to protect your pc
-"RAV" tool is a free-ware:
http://www.evosla.com/evosla_soft/rav-antispy.html

-"USB Disk Security" is a shareware:
http://www.zbshareware.com/

Never saw the point of those programs, creating hidden, read-only folders named after autorun.inf and other common trojan filenames did the trick for me.

The name makes it already sound like a major scam, but I really liked this part of their description:
Quote:
Repair broken Internet Connections, Desktops, Registry Editing and more with our unique Repair System!

Which is not an achievement. Also, XP is known for its weak security compared to modern software products. So, PROTIP is: upgrade to Windows Vista or higher and get Security Essentials instead of that junk collection.

EDIT: Oh wait, wait! If you like that security collection, you'll love this!

Please tone it down with the flaming. Thank you.

I've heard that despite its name, it's a pretty good program. I think "repair broken Internet connections" probably refers to restoring the hosts file, WinSock, TCP/IP settings to their default values, in case malware has altered them rendering the connection unusable.

I have been here a lot longer then you. While CPAMX is a troll, no doubt, he also knows his shit. For that reason, I leave him alone.

On topic:
I don't need an AV. I got a virtual PC with a firewall (zone alarm) to test anything really dangerous.

On a sidenote, what do you think about VIPRE? Personally, I hadn't even heard of it until a friend told me he was using that. I visited their homepage, and they claim to be a very effective solution that requires little CPU and RAM, apparently delivering as promised (at least that's what he told me).

Anyone? :DONT_KNOW:

It got the standard certifications (VB100 etc), so not sure what to think about it. However, their claims of resource-free scanning appear a bit estranged to me, as they're just claiming that it wouldn't slow down your computer at all.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, that part is a bit weird. Even if its resource usage is minimal, it still technically slows the computer down, somewhat. They must mean it's so well-coded that the impact isn't noticeable.
