Here's an interesting, maybe far-fetched speculation I just came up with.

Spoiler
GlaDOS is pulling that prank with the fake surprise and says something like "You've been waiting for them for three years now". This refers to the parents that abandoned Cell, but talking to the player, it could also refer to Freeman and Alyx (Episode Two came out 3 years and half a year ago and Valve obviously trolls people with EP3 rather often - PLUS, I've heard Portal 2 takes place a long long time after Portal 1, so the 3 years make no sense at all if it were about the parents..). There have been other things Glados said that made me wonder if she isn't acutally talking about something else. When do Portal 1 events take place? Could Cell be the daughter of Freeman and Alyx? ::D

The parents you called, do not love you. Please hang up.

When I heard "Surpise" I though, Oh, freedom? Going outside? That deer GLaDOS saw?

I'm sorry, your posts are irresistible to reply to. :D But the theory does make sense. However, does this mean the Borealis wasn't destroyed? You'd think they get whatever the hell was on it and destroy the ship, like in every self-respecting action game.

I went over there and died. I let nothing stay untried. :P

When I feel like it, I might grab the subtitle files and read through Glados' rants again. I remember some sentences that could be worth looking into. Then again, it's valve, it could all mean nothing. But how likely is that.

Also, I actually thought her name was Cell. >.< Brainfail.

Don't you get it, it's all Valve's play.
I'm pretty sure that Portal wasn't part of the HL2 plan at all.
So they started making Portal and Ep2 at the same time and someone at Valve probably got the idea to connect both games, so they added the teasers (The Aperture logo on the ship in EP2, and the comparison with Black Mesa on the presentation in Portal). Fanboys were like OMG OMG.
But Portal ending was probably made up before the idea of the teaser, and the way Portal 1 ended was let's say semi-open. There was no place for sequel, not at least sequel that takes place underground.

But as said fanboys were excited so they decided they make another Portal that takes place underground and they released a video on the nets showing an alternative Portal 1 ending.
They made Portal 2, they added even more HL references/teasers just to heat the (fanboy) atmosphere and that that.
I say don't fall for this. Too much unneeded fuss.

Portal 1 was pretty good game, Portal 2 is just good. And that's all.

Do you deny that Portal is part of the Half-Life universe?

I'm one of said fanboys and I fall for it intentionally - because I have fun speculating about this. I love the creativity they put into marketing and hidden info. I'm sure there's a reason for every little thing that can be discovered in the Half-Life and related games, even if that reason wasn't part of the story plan from the beginning. Only Valve knows. Of course Aperture Science was added at some point - the whole Portal idea wasn't even Valve's in the first place. I see no problem in that though.

I wish to deny it but i can't, it's not my universe.

From what I see, probably, the first reason to include the multi game teasers is money, and not to create a good story or smth.
The way things between the games now are strings and stitches. Well cut the stitches for now. But I fear that at the end things will end up with strings and stitches, lot of them. And that's not good.

It is a good marketing, I always liked positive marketing. Even though I might end up as a buyer of that marketing. I agree with RessourectoR, it is fun to speculate about it and they indeed are creative. Oh and that thing with Potato Sack games? It's a brilliant move.
