Just google windows 8 360 and you will see how much this news has exploded.
Apparently, some people have found 360 code inside a leaked build of windows 8 and then there's also the fact that Microsoft appears to have announced that they are going to fuse Games for windows Live with Xbox Live.

What are your predictions?
Is this going to happen or is this a dud?
Do you want this to happen?
It's pretty much self implied that once they do that, we will be playing all 360 games for free through the power hax :D

Xbox 360 = IBM POWER CPU.
Emulating that = impossible with a x86/x64 one and acceptable speeds.

Also, why would Microsoft make xbox 360 games run on Windows? Too make the Xbox 360 less popular?

I read about this on another forum, and my reaction was the same as ChrisTX's. Emulation involves, according my basic knowledge, pretending to be a completely different CPU to the running program. The Xbox 360 apparently runs on a 64-bit processor with a different instruction set, which with our currently available hardware isn't really possible to emulate at playable speeds.

Emulation has always been an evolving thing. I remember back when MAME just started to emulate Hard Drivin'
They said it would run at full speed on 12GHz. This was around the time Pentium 4 was in major use. Dual core wasn't even an option. Now, it works fine on 300MHz. That game is not running on an Intel or AMD CPU but it worked fine. Give anything time and it can be done. And if Microsoft will be doing XBox emulation, they are the best ones to do it. After all, they made the damn thing.

M$ wouldn't bother emulating x360 as it's too risky and unstable.
They will probably port some games to earn more money.
What they can do is force users to buy some coprocessor with can run x360 native code.

ii dont think MS realy wants to do this. PCs can have endless configurations and sources of errors and xboc is just one piece of hardware to maintain. couldn´t it be that a stripped down version if windows 8 will run on a xbox? could explain the code there, too.

I would imagine they are developing the xbox sdk alongside latest windows builds, it makes sense to have an emulator for xbox dev that can run in windows, even at a reduced speed it would be useful to devs, but i couldn't imagine it ever being of use (or available) to end users! :)

I heard that W8 is going to be multi-platform and it's going to run on phones and other stuff too. So:

1: What you see is about the GFWL and XBL merger.

2: It's about running W8 on 360.

It would make little sense to port W8 to PowerPC. On phones is the rumor, but it has never been confirmed or anything. It will only run on ARM (and as for WS not IPF anymore), that's it.

You shouldn't compare MAME and an incredibly powerful IBM Xenon. Whilst you could - in theory - JIT the whole thing ( which would be one hell of a project ), it's not gonna happen.

In my opinion they're just making it easier to develop multiplatform games (360 + PC) by introducing 360 functionality directly into Windows. While most commercial games are moving to consoles, they can't abandon the PC as a gaming platform because that's still a huge advantage against competing operating systems.

If Microsoft can give users cross console play via Windows 8, they would have a nice advantage in the market over pretty much anyone else. Though anti-trust would be all over that mess.
