I've never used yahoo, so I can't judge that. ChrisTX, my hotmail address is horrible. I don't get activation emails on many sites, and when someone sends me something, tells me about sending it immediately, it sometimes takes up to one hour for the email to arrive. With all my other emails, he says "sent", I click "receive" in my email client, it's there. I also had the false memory of Hotmail having no POP3/SMTP. I have tested several mailing services - all except Google send your home IP with the header. Sure, can be proxied, but it's still a valid point when I just don't like it at all. I'm not completely against social networks. It's just that they're all shit so far. I registered at Facebook once, to make a spying account. And every time I read news about Facebook or Google CEOs, bosses or other higher ranks, they are like "yo, privacy is for pussies, privacy was yesterday, we will just dispose of it". That's when I know I'm doing the right thing not using their sites. This kind of cancerous and hostile behaviour paired with total disrespect for people should be reason enough for anyone not to entrust them with too personal data. I keep hearing this argument: "No harm can be done with your data, you are unimportant anyway.". Depends on your definition of harm and how easily you trust random strangers. For me, the choice between "paranoid and cautious" and "foolish and oblivious" is an obvious one. If you don't want to be that radical, I say: Sure, use whatever sites and services you want, as long as you make an effort to know your surroundings. Who has access to the data you provide, what can be done with it, what could be done with it in the future, are you ok with that? ..and since I have been getting the increased feeling that at certain sites, you are not able to control what happens with your data anymore, I just don't even bother. My life has been great without throwing my identity and social connections all over the internet, I simply feel much better knowing that I have a good amount of control. AlicanC, if you don't want to seperate your real life and online identity to some degree, it doesn't mean others who do want to do that are insecure or concerned over nothing. And if importance was aequivalent to "most people give a crap", this would be a world even more sad and pathetic than it already is. |

What aggravates me the most is how the US handled Opt in/Opt out compared to the EU. EU says, "You have to Opt In for things," while the US says, "You must give uses a way to Opt Out." The problem is, Spam goes, "Hey, an Opt out request. It's real. Spam it to hell!" And guess where Facebook is located on the globe. Google, same. Pretty much any big internet service is US based. So much for Opt In. |

Non, GMail sends them, too, even if you've got Google Apps. It's a generic spam bot protection. Even the so much privacy focused LavaBit sends the IP in the header. I don't know any way but self-hosting to really purge the IP from the header. It's pretty easy with Exchange though. hegyak wrote: What aggravates me the most is how the US handled Opt in/Opt out compared to the EU. At least NAI allows you to opt out from all oversighted companies (privacychoice, easyprivacy, etc ban non-NAI ads) as far as behavorial tracking goes. |

Talking about crappy e-mail services, anyone remember @RIN.ru mailboxes? Their service was pretty good and I actually used that everywhere... until it went downhill and I had to change my registered e-mail address on half the Internet. |

In Turkey (and probably in many other countries) you keep your cell number when you change your operator. Sadly, you don't get to keep your e-mail address when you change e-mail providers. Even if you could keep it, with today's technology, it would just be a simple forwarding mechanism that made your e-mails go trough both the original domain's server and your current provider's server. (Which would make you asswipes freak out like 9 year old girls.) |

I say, I like relevant ads. They are often helpful. Also, who are you guys? That need for privacy only tells me that you have got something to hide! CRIMINALS! |

tl;dr I just use YouTube to pass the flagging, because it annoyed me.It was some retarded video which I had to see so I made a YouTube account. Now I just comment and favorite videos with it,besides,I used to spend a lot of time on YouTube since 2009.It's much better than my country's video site. Of course I use their search engine and I also don't like the instant search function.I don't mind the images, but they can be annoying too and are nearly useless to me. |

No need to thank me, I know you're not a fag. I didn't mean to diss but I still have no love for social sites. I can't stand them and just hearing about them makes me throw fire balls in my posts. |

Haha, nice one! I can relate to the lyrics. Maybe not to the extent of telling Walmart I'm a sixty-something, but knowing my real IP and e-mail addresses, and being browsed outside of a private tab, are privileges very few sites have in this household.
