Post subject:  Who has the worst Internet?

I spend a lot of time complaining about my awful service, but maybe I'm being greedy.

I challenge someone to post a worse plan that they use as their primary means of accessing the internet.

My plan:
Bigpond Wireless
Requires a US$300 3G modem which you must purchase from them. If they detect you are not using one of their modems (not a Bigpond IMEI) they disconnect your service.
Service cost: US$50 per month
Download & Upload cap: 8GB

Yep, you read that correct. 8000MB. Per month. That includes downloads AND uploads.
If you use up your 'data allowance' the speed is capped at 64kb/s until the next month.
This is the BEST POSSIBLE Internet service available in my area.

And it sucks.

Here is my SpeedTest.net result for you to compare speed and whatnot.

So. Do I get sympathy or should I stop complaining?

You decide.

Dr Krieger, Australia in general doesn't seem to have the best ISPs compared against other countries, right? Something similar seems to happen in Canada, with many providers having relatively low monthly caps and traffic shaping.

As for who has an Internet connection worse than yours, I used to be on dial-up some years ago. Beat that :P Now I have Cable and my speeds are roughly half of tony_almeida's, which isn't a problem since I'm not a heavy downloader anyway.

I was on dial-up until September 2009.

wow, my WP7's data plan (HSDPA 7.2Mbps, 3GB down, further capped at GPRS 56kbit/s) for $15/pm sounds better than that.

Oh also, Bigpond told us that we were in a serviceable area before we subscribed, then when we discovered we couldn't get a connection, they informed us that we needed to spend another US$300 on Yagi antenna and point it at the cell tower.

This was after ringing technical support dozens of times and being told "You probably have viruses and malware on your computer and that is why the connection is slow". Um, then how did I download the viruses in the first place???

So wait, you spent US$600 just to get a 3G signal?

The tech support guys, don't get me started on that. The people ISPs put on call centers or send to your home to setup the connection often barely know what to do. I'm not forgetting an actual quotation I read on a local forum: "this nvCplDaemon is spyware and that's why you can't get online".

All up, yeah.
We had to get the modem replaced 4 times because they kept breaking after a week of use, and they tried to charge us for each one.
They took several thousand dollars out of our bank account and then wouldn't give it back, instead they just credited it to our Telstra account.

We didn't have to pay the phone bill for 4 months because they had already taken the money in advance!!!

The last two months they have slowed our internet in the first week of the billing cycle because they believed we had used up our entire data allowance: no one was even home on the days they said we were using it!!

The whole company (Telstra) is a complete disgrace.

That's a pretty crappy cap, how do you deal with it? Even without downloads it's easy to go over those 3 GB each month.

I usualy cap off the limit ... it like 5$ the GB in extra so that cost alot...

Bigpond no longer has plans with excess GB usage because the price was just ridiculous.

They do provide international roaming at the cost of $15 per MB.

Around 35$ for Telephone+Internet, no limit.
Well, it's okay. I'm thinking about changing my ISP to German T-Com to get 50Mbit/s, that'd be nice.
