Hey guys,
I have been using IDM for years, but I started trying out JDownloader.
I need something that is chrome friendly, but JDownloader doesn't seem to be.
So far I like IDM more than JDownloader, but I haven't fully tried out JDownloader yet.
What do you guys think?

I'm not sure these are comparable. The only thing I need a download manager for is one-click hosters, and nothing beats JDownloader there.

Not sure on what you mean with "Chrome friendly", but I've seen a few extensions to control jD from that browser. It has a web UI available as well.

As for your question, I would vouch for jDownloader but I've never used IDM, so it wouldn't be a fair comparison.

There was a sort of addon for jDownloader in which you earned "credits" by solving other people's captchas, and could spend them on captcha-free downloads for yourself once you made enough. No idea if it still works.

Mostly because they're not. I do use MiPony for file hosts, but I barely use them when most of the stuff I want is on torrents which are much faster and convenient.

Yes jD has a lot of options and functions if you're dealing with file hosts, but it also eats and hogs ram and processing power like a stuffed pig. I blame java for that, it's always been a problem with programs written in that language.

Anyhow, IDM is really good at what it is: a general download manager for direct download links, jD on the hand is specifically for downloading loads and loads of files from free file hosts, and ofc we have uTorrent for torrents.

What I mean is, what IDM does great is that if you download something in your browser, IDM window pops up and will download it for you.
No need to add link to IDM, it autograbs the link for you. So if you press Download now on for example Pulocker or Zippyshare, IDM will download it automatically for you and not the browser.
Is this also possible for Jdownloader?

Just like IDM, jD and other file host downloaders instantly detect file host links you've clicked or copied to your clipboard, and then starts downloading slowly, you don't to waste IDM's downloading potential on file hosts which artificially limit your speed.

It's quite convenient copying 21 links of 500MB parts and jD instantly popping up and starting to download the first one and line up the rest for downloading.

both.

JDownloader is for downloading files from same host or multiple hosts at once. all you have to do copy and paste all links and it decodes the links and make them download, and it supported to nearly every host. and JDownloader even can decode ad links.

IDM is for downloading files from a single source., Yes it's true you can download certain multiple files at once too but it's complicated and as I found it's only supported to premium service.
