This bug has been fixed in 3.52 but it seems always present in the 3.53...

True. No idea how, but initial fix was removed during 3.52->3.53 transition. I restored it in 3.54 though.

Works now, thanks.

I noticed the following behaviour but I don't know if it is supposed to be right or not: In standalone mode, hl2 based games can be launched using hl2.exe -steam -game X without specific settings in configuration file but hl1 based games not. For example: hl.exe -steam -game valve produces error message: "I have no idea what game you are launching".

Try starting hl.exe -steam (do not supply -game valve).

Works for hl1 but of course not for other hl1 based games. It's not really a problem because it is possible to use configuration file.

Regarding localized games I don't figure out why it is mandatory to add GCF in configuration file when this(these) GCF is(are) in the blob file. It seemed to me that games were dependants of their localized GCF. Of course, it's not a problem, it's just to understand better how emulator works (I don't use blob file).

Regards.

Localized and add-on gcfs are stored in the blob as per-user dependencies.
As STEAMemu cannot rely on this information being present (it is written to the blob by the steamclient only if the language is changed or addon is installed), I cannot support it from the blob. The extra localized dependencies simply are not in there by default.

I have noticed there are still a lot of questions about servers.

With STEAMemu you can host a dedicated server on Win32 on Linux with or without VAC.

The server can be joined by STEAMemu clients, legit clients and cracked clients without any problem.

Using STEAMemu on your client of course does not allow you to play on non-emulated/non-cracked servers or circumvent VAC on them.

Making a GCF, hmm? Please, divulge a hint or two more regarding that very interesting topic :)

Just tried using putting steam.dll & steamemu.ini to my CZ Server files created by HLDSupdatetool

STEAMemu clients can join
Both legit clients and cracked clients cant join...
both got this error:

hCUPa, I think you should put the FAQ question about not being able to play on VAC2 like near the top of the first post :D - theres been like 10 people posting about VAC2

ok, 3.54 fixes the steamemu.ini detection problem, but there are some more to go :)

1) When launching any Source-based game & Third-party games:
can't find background image /materials/console/background01.vtf
2) When launching any HL1-based game:
W_LoadWadFile: couldn't load gfx.wad
3) When launching any Dedicated server & Source SDK:
This application has failed to start because Steam.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

For launching from shortcuts without clientregistry.blob:

put steamemu.ini and steam.dll in the folder in question (works for 3.54 with ini in same folder as dll), make a shortcut and add the following parameters:

For Half-Life and Half-Life 2 launch the game with -steam only.

For Half-Life Mods launch the game with -steam -game <Folder name> and make sure the header in the ini file has the _<Folder name> section after the .EXE name.

For Half-Life 2 Mods launch the game with -steam -game <Folder name> and make sure the header in the ini file has the _<Folder name> section after the .EXE name where foldername has the full sourcemods path in it.

For Non HL1/2 games launch with -steam and make sure the header in the ini file does not have the _<Folder name> section i.e. only contains the .EXE name.

If it still isn't working add -appid (and the AppID) to the parameters. I think this is only necessary on HL2 mods - but wont hurt to put it in anyway.

I can launch all content in my own launcher using these rules.

i'm trying to launch from ORIGINAL STEAM CLIENT

I've read the FAQ times and times,I've read the replies from last night to this afternoon. What I say is true!
FAQ says I can setup Dedicated Server with VAC2,however,it doesn't work for me yet!!

(I'm a foreigner and sorry for my poor expression :P )
I commit the following steps,Anyting wrong?

1) I used windows HLDSUPDATETOOL to download HLDS. Replace Steam.dll with that in STEAMemu. Doesn't work.

2) I installed Steam Client. Install Dedicated Server.
Something wrong about steam service not running before I copied steam.dll from Steam main dir to SteamApps\xiehb\Dedicated Server\. This time HLDS can be launched up.
When I copied STEAMemu files into to Steam dir,run SteamLauncher.exe, then launch Dedicated Server, it reported service not running(but steam.dll exists in Dedicated Server dir now, why?).

3) I tried under Linux. The original server files were downloaded by hldsupdatetool (thus steam version). I think I have correctly make the EMU server, because I see msg like "libsteam.so .... 0.4....We are loaded". But When I connect to it with Client from REVOLUTiON 3382, it says "Invalid CD Key". Some other players get messages like Gustaw posted before.

What's wrong in my configuration?
I am so tired now. Hope all save me.
Oh,All,My Gods,Don't blame me,Please!

Ahh - Ok, got confused because you mentioned steamemu.ini which you shouldn't need for the client?

It means emu failed to mount required GCFs for the game. I removed restriction that ini file has to be present in 3.54, but that does not mean you can run your games without information about mounts at all.

hmm... quite strange...
Client says that all games are 100% ready!
When launching, it creates necessary dirs and unpack needed files but gives this error right after that (i.e. it creates d:\steam\steamapps\john doe\half-life 2 deathmatch\ and subdirs)

all emu files are placed in steam directory, steamemu.ini has this string - BaseDir=D:\Steam\SteamApps
