Yup it looks like the steam scenes in crisis.
Freesteam has just announced that its shutting down its main forum board completely out of the blue.
This news came as a complete shock to both myself(fsCoder) and N008(fsAdmin) as we had both been working hard on a new steam client emulator for the forum. Add to that that Rin is currently blocking ips from a range to prevent attacks(I know you are because i cant even navigate here w/o proxy.) and i think the situation's pretty shitty.

btw. N008 and i will still be releasing our client Emu today.
It'll just be released here instead. cyas ltr. -rix

The FreeSteam Project is officially being shutdown. This is not due to Steam nor Valve contact us, as we have protection from them. This is due to the fact that many people who we believed to be trusted, were not to be trusted. We have had many issues in the past, including other times our server has been hacked, dos'd, etc. People feel because they do this it makes them superior, when all it proves is that they have far too much time on their hands. This may only be temporary shutdown, but so far, it will be a permament thing. But for the moment, our only plan to fix up our site/server is gonig to be too expensive. So unless we recieved a serious donation(s) then we are stuck to shutting down this site.

Note To All VIPs. As you are reading this, do not think we have forgotten about you! You have paid for your VIP, and will get what you paid for. I will be contacting all VIP personally giving them the cafe fix as it is still to be completed.

So far, we have 3 main ideas for the future of FS.

1) Shut it down completely, give the VIPs what they paid for, and end it.

2) Wait until we can get further donations and get our new server and again, start a re-vamp'd site. Completely protected before we even open.

3) Make the current site completely private and leave access only to those who have paid for it. All staff will be removed, however, this will be the case either way. We will be open to new people, but only those who wish to pay for their access, otherwise, the site will be completely locked up.

yeah it's a sad day for the nonsteam community but i hope the forum will be back

Wow, i went on that forum allot and now they shut down, last time i checked they didn't need any more donations because they had more than they needed...

They prolly did, but W3 spent it all on sneakers so he has a chance at a social life.

Yeah, lol he bought a 500 pair of sneakers lol, but that kid does need a life though..

yeah, too many "networks site" and a too big forum for this small community... the good old forums with all my gcfs/ncfs/releases and coding posts from me and others gone

Even solid rin fans understand that a two forum system is better anyway because members dont suddenly stop wanting to talk about steam cos aboard is being attacked. Rin has also been down alot lately and ive seen some familiar writing styles on the freesteam site.

Still its piss poor telling the staff that the site is shutting down at the same time as the public.
It should have been a great project but it was badly run. A real shame.

Whatever happened, as I promised, RIN willl never go down again as long as the current admins are there, just small attack downtimes maybe, but never like suspended or anything again

The site was doomed to failure since the beginning. Why start a warez community entitled 'FreeSteam', and expect users to pay for 'Level 1 VIP', 'Level 2 VIP' and such? It looks as if a Orwellian-totalitarian caste system was in place! Even in the aforementioned statement about their closing, their administrator, WWIII, was pratically begging for money.

However, I do understand that maintaining a site and its associated costs does cost money. Nevertheless, one definiately cannot resort to begging in order to get it.

Like communism Vip was a good idea. It was just taken too far.

Why pay for VIP when you can buy the game with that money insted..... No offence but to me that site was a fucking joke. Especialy the admins :X

Im prety sure its not a good thing to criticise freesteam here, since were not an anti fs comunity.
