how do i check if the GCF files are up to date. someone said i had to go into steam then tool or something, but i couldn't find anything there. cause i dont know what mirror to download from (this is for TF2) |

Houdini You can see if a gcf/ncf is outdated with CFToolbox. |

Hey all, I've been lurking for a few weeks now, and have come across all kind of neat stuff and great info in these forums. I actually bought the Orange Box, thinking that I would be playing HL2 the very same day. I was very wrong about that one. I'm one of those poor SOB's that have dial up, and trying to update this game is impossible. So now I'm PO'd (at Valve) and want to see if there is any kind of work around to play the game off the original install dvd, without doing any kind of patching or updating to the original game files. In other words, no big downloads that are going to take me months to complete. Or am I only dreaming that all of the game content is even on the game disk to begin with? |

seems my uploads of portal content.gcf portal english.gcf source 2007 shared materials.gcf half life 2 episode one.gcf half life 2 content.gcf were reported aswell, i am currently repacking them and reuploading, gonna take an hour or two |

Excellent, I was just about to say something about all the rapidshare uploads I have tried seem to have been removed due to some jerkwad's complaint, but you already know! Thanks for the superb job guys. Truly you are kings among men.  I can't wait to play portal.

Yo, i downloaded the portal content folder and when i extract it to steam apps (or anywhere else for that matter) i get this message from win rar "pc.rin.rar: CRC failed in the encrypted file portal content .GCF (wrong password?)" Idk whats up, any solutions? |

masterd1987 Why do you want those? And isn't the 2nd one just a video? However portal the first slice.gcf just makes portal to a demo, so I think it's pretty senseless. |

Both GCFs are useless; the first is, yea, a demo, and the second is almost like normal DoD:S. Try to get them with a blank account and CF Toolbox, if you really need them. |
