How about starting to actually start creating logos that contain the old logo in them and stop using that gay steam logo.

As long as it looks good, why not give it a try?
I need to find some time to make logos for the competition as well.
chabat, I made that and maybe you can recognize it in one of my submissions.
I like the 3D idea though. It just needs some nice texture(s).

I didn't think the "factory" logo was very appropriate, but I can try to work it in...

I'd say anything you like, you are the artist after all.

An idea would be to put a deadline on this competition, and after the time expired, to make a list of all the logos and give every logo a test period of several days (depending on the amount of logos).
The test period would mean that the logo will be used as forum logo, when all the logos have been 'tested', you can start a poll.

Bad idea imo, I mean if somebody doesn't login for some time then he misses half of the logos. It would be better to be able to switch between them. That would be faster and more comfortable.

If it is possible to make an option to switch between them, that would be better, yes.
Then you make a period of when you can switch between those logos.
