Okay some peeps are posting different errors for HL2, well lets make this a troubleshooting thread like what we did for CSS, with this its better for the peeps to find there problems/errors, and with that they will not post same questions again, PLEASE if possible share some possible solutions you know, it would be highly appreciated... thank you..

Need to be fix..
* Could not load library Client
* Unable to load engine.dll
* client.dll init() in library client failed
* Engine Error: failed to lock vertex buffer in CMeshDX8::LockVertexBuffer

Fixes :
- Charactes freezes (NPC)
- Added Retail Version Blood (client.dll)
- Hud fixed
- Ai fixed
- No elevator problem (tested on 10 others computers)
- Added F1pZ Launcher (no -steam needed)

- it means that gcfs are were extracted encrypted, they need to be decrypt first.

AI_DISABLED.. HELP!

- When you have ai disabled in the game, quit, change your windows date to 2007.
start the game, load the save that you had ai disable in, save the game, quit.
turn back windows date to actual date, run the game and load the save game you have just created, no ai disabled!
when it comes back do the same thing again

This is the (hopefully) final and working version of the ai_fix.
Just extract the .rar archive to your hl2 directory and overwrite the existing files.
Then go to your hl2\hl2\SAVE directory and DELETE all files in there.
You have to delete these files because they cause the ai problem. You can start from the chapter you reached; so if you just passed chapter 6, use the ai patch, delete the saves and then you can start chapter 7 without the ai problems Smile

- When I changed the setting in Audio for the game to have "subtitles" I started getting the error. I switched it back to the default , none, and I stopped getting the error. Try that. Or, if you changed your settings after a save (or a death), revert it back to the original settings of the time you saved. I think that should get it to work again. Did for me.

- to fix this problem open the "source engine" whith GCFScape, and decript scripts/talker folder in your hl2 folder..

Crash Problem: Memory could not be read

As what i have read @ steampowered

Option 1
- increase ur virtual memory
- use -heapsize 128000 or 256000

128MB RAM: -heapsize 64000
256MB RAM: -heapsize 128000
512MB RAM: -heapsize 256000
1GB RAM: -heapsize 512000

- update drivers
- Defrag ur Computer
- if possible disable some service stuff in ur OS

Option 2
- browse to ur hl2 directory
- look for config.cfg @ hl2\cfg
- delete it, then run hl2 again

Half-Life 2 Menu Freeze

- open valve.rc with notepad (back up that file first)
- at bottom looks like this

- Either delete "startup menu" or put two slashes in front of it to disable the level.

Multiplayer Mod in HL2?

- you must unzip it to your hl2 folder, make shortcut, go to shortcut properties, and add '-game hl2mp' in path to hl2.exe.

Remove Valve's StartUp video in hl2

2. Load up Startupvids.txt

3. Delete everything in that document and save.

4. Load hl2 and you see the Valve StartUp video is GONE!!!


Change the speeching language to your HL2 NonSteam

The first thing that you need is the Half-life 2_(yourpreferredlanguage).GCF extracted or are in the SteamApps folder if you use Vengeance crack. So:

1. First click on "START", so "Run..." and type "regedit" without quotes and Enter.

2. In your Registry window, go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam

3. Make or change the "Language" string to preferred language (e.g english, french, chinese, german)

4. And so, YOU ARE DONE!!!

To get it work with the Vengeance crack

Open your "steamemu.ini"

Do this:

; Half-Life 2 Content Files, needed to play HL2
; HL2 checks if its installed in a directory path with at LEAST 4 slashes in it!
; hl2.exe -steam -game hl2 / hl2.exe -steamlocal -game hl2
GCF05=(write in your preferred language gcf file e.g Half-life 2_german.gcf)

Getting the "Invalid or corrupt texture materials/console/background01.vtf" error. I've installed HL2 (from german DVD image), extracted all (yes all except the securom one) .gcfs with GCFScape into a folder (as in Thals guide), pasted the bin folder from empV5 update. Trying to start the game = above mentioned error.

Then replaced the file with the one from cstrike\materials\console... then game starts up... intro video starts.. after that I see "Loading...", error message pops up: "The application or DLL d:\hl2\root\hl2\bin\server.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check against your installation diskette." When I try with launcher.exe game starts up,, video shows, then "Loading" and thats it - nothing ever happens. Game hangs. Yes I have created shortcut with -steam, tried with launcher.exe and ape fix (client.dll).

Anything I need to take care of ? Like order of extracting the gcfs... cause there are base bla bla and german bla bla..?

Also people keep replying "you have to unlock / decrypt" gcfs - remember I'm using the ones from retail DVD... anything special I need to do in order to *decrypt / unlock* them except extracting them with GCFScape?

how long u let it load? sometimes it seems to take forever

i cant even get the game to start i ahve read all the forums even the 35 pages one and havent seen my error mines say steam start up() failed: Steram startup (blah blah blah) failed with error 200: failed to connect to any General Directory Server, winsock error 100061" connection refuesed", now i ahve did everything you all said exept i cant get the css steam i dont know where to find it i have dl counter-strikes source final emporio, its like 400 something mb but every rar file in there is the same, they all say emp-css there are 31 of them all the same when i extract i put the bin from there into half life2, but there is know steam stuff to be found there is a steam config, ok thanks

u need the number 5 update, read the sticky on how to install css

when i did the cdkey exploit, it never said unlocking files, it just started dl them, so i don think they are unlocked?, i can extracted them and all, but every ones keeps say unlock, is that the same as, just being able to dl them?
