See the difference? The right one is the hl2/bin folder Where do I d/l this? I got the ape fix but all that it comes with is a hl2fix.exe or something and that doesn't even work! It says something about a program not being suited to run in MSDOS or something...yeah...is there a d/l with the patched client.dll already?
EDIT: The error is...
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Connection to steam servers lost. Could not acquire necessary game files.

- add steamengine to main hl2 folder and add -steam to shortcut
This is soo frustrating.
I have installed the HALF-LIFE.2.PROPER.OFFLINE.NOSTEAM-AHU version and it even has the shortcut with - steam - console in it.
But I still get the "could not retreve files from steam".
What exactly does "add steamengine" mean?

ok I just installed ccs to get the steamengine (it works, I can play CS this way).
I moved the engine to the hl2 folder but that did not help.
I even tried running the engine first and then starting hl2 but that did not work either.
Any clue what I am doing wrong?

everything is well setup... i launch hl2, click on start a new game and i get an error message in the coinsole :
execing valve.rc
execing chapter1.cfg
Unable to remove c:\krys\divers\hl2\root\hl2\SAVE!
Unable to launch game
what s wrong ??!!
i remember having downloaded a patch with modified chapter.cfg files but i can t find it anymore...
any ideas ???

fixed... i had copy/past css full bin folder ... i mean, the one in the main directory... so i guess i had an engine.dll error. when trying to play hl2...
now it works..and it rockS !!!

hey sophiste, i have that exact same problem. i tried what u said in ur post..... i copied cssdirectory\bin to halflife2directory\bin but it didnt fix the error. i still have the problem. maybe i didnt understand what u said u did. can u please say it again more clearly. and if anyone else can help me please do so. thank you!

Hi .. can ya please help me? I get an error titled "Source - Fatal Error" and it says "Could not acquire necessary game files because the connection to Steam servers was lost" ... this is first error I get .. after playing though so many chapters .. I'm like in chapter 12 or 13 ... and suddenly I got that error and it shutdown .. I did put the 'steamengine' to my "D:\HL2\root\hl2\" folder and nothing happened, then I decided to add the 'SteamApps.cfg' to the same location where I added the 'steamengine' and still I got the same error. I don't know what to do to fix it  .. btw: I got Half Life 2 from the CFGs not the GERMAN DVD. Please can someone help me here?? THANK YOU
