There is no point in exchanging the background01.vtf as posted earlier by me and TetrisTheMovie the gcfs are encrypted. If you extract them you'll get encrypted files (invalid / corrupt for the game). Replacing the background01.vtf with a good file wont fix it for you. It will hang when trying to load the next file - which of course will be encrypted again. You'll need access to decrypted gcfs or just take the emporio proper rls.

u didnt read their posts in another topic, they have dvd version, and are trying to play it w/o dvd, and used someone method, and they have this error

The files on the DVD are encrypted too - at least the one I came by. Am I missing something ?

I have a few fixes for the not fixed stuff.
For client.dll problems, ape's patched dll should fix it.

Also, you can disable the level background by using the -console switch. Don't have to go mucking around with valve.rc.

My HL2 still crashes after I go to a new area and it says Loading...
It just crashes with no error message at all. I tried the heapsize thing and deleting my config file. Any help is appreciated.

This is the message I seem to be getting just after G-Man's introduction; it's also accompanied by a memory error, saying it could not write to certain address..etc. Pretty standard Windows error.

I'm running the launcher.exe, steamless, patchless version called HL2_UK

Tried applying various remedies: ai_fix, and whatever that was mentioned in the first post of this thread.

Any clue, guys?


i have a same problem like Supercooled has. can someone help me fix that problem?

it did not help me with the problem. maybe i did something wrong, i made a shortcut from launcher.exe and added -heapsize 128000 in properties. was it right

do not add -heapsize to the launcher.exe,add it to hl2.exeShortcut(which you cant,because...think) or type it into console or find/add the setting in the .cfg
