Hello. I would like to report that REVOLUTiON Emulator v2.4 (for Linux) does not work.
I have Ubuntu Server and p48 Counter-Strike 1.6 HLDS. I have tried it with a little bit old version (can be identified by a v25 Counter-Strike 1.6 base package) and the latest version (can be identified by a v34 Counter-Strike 1.6 base package). With neither one does it work.
Even though emulator seems to load properly:
  1. paulius@Paulius-CS:~/temp/hlds_p48$ ./hlds_run -game cstrike +port 27016 +ip 192.168.1.2 +map de_dust
  2. Auto detecting CPU
  3. Using AMD Optimised binary.
  4. Auto-restarting the server on crash
  5.
  6. Console initialized.
  7. scandir failed:/home/paulius/temp/hlds_p48/./valve/SAVE
  8. scandir failed:/home/paulius/temp/hlds_p48/./platform/SAVE
  9. Protocol version 48
  10. Exe version 1.1.2.6/Stdio (cstrike)
  11. Exe build: 18:01:18 Oct 24 2008 (4352)
  12. STEAM Auth Server
  13. couldn't exec language.cfg
  14. Server IP address 192.168.1.2:27016

  16. scandir failed:/home/paulius/temp/hlds_p48/./platform/SAVE
  17. [S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; unable to update local steamclient. Continuing with current version anyway.

  34. Connection to Steam servers successful.
  35.    VAC secure mode is activated.
  36. sv_lan
  37. "sv_lan" is "0"
  38.

I just can't connect to the server with my p47 non-steam client, which connects to p47 servers perfectly; it returns the following error:
  1. This server is using a newer protocol ( 48 ) than your client ( 47 ).  You should check for updates to your client

I have tried a few popular p47 non-steam releases, and none can connect - it always suggests to update to p48. If client-side modifications are to be involved, this whole thing misses the point.
I tried playing with -nomaster, -insecure, sv_lan, but nothing seems to work.
I am willing to provide any needed information.
Thanks for the support and..a hope! :)

Revemu doesnt support Protocol 47(thank god!).
Just update your client to newest version 48 and you can play on the newest servers.

All steam players are using P48, so why wouldnt you use it too?
Here is a patch to update your client.

Vast majority of players are still p47 and it would be a hard transition to just switch my server to p48, and I'd rather leave it as is - don't want to lose ALL of my players.
I am looking for a 'hybrid' solution, so that a patched p48 server would allow 'legacy' p47 clients to join too. They would be encouraged to update to p48 anyway though!
Is it possible?

To be honest, yes.
But I would really really prefer it if you didnt use that. If just more and more nonsteam server admins would stop using that clients would be forced to upgrade.
Pure P48 is more stable anyway.

Why? P47 wouldnt even know that they are playing on a hybrid server. I guess most P47 think the "This server is using a newer protocol ( 48 ) than your client ( 47 )." error is a serverside error.

And now there is no really good reason to use old cs version anyway.
Revemu's serverbrowser is working good. The only thing that doesnt work is favorites. That cant be a really big deal.

And no I wont link you to that thing. :pooh:

If he's a bad man for not liking p47, then that makes me even worse for not wanting to allow such clients on my server. :8=)

Killing Floor (still) doesn´t work with external module enabled (without it seems stable (tested v2.4))

Using Rev_Emu v2.5
ServerLog:
Well not much to say on the server log, it just stops

From what i´ve seen Legit clients can join fine while i can´t say if that includes cracked steam or not, but i´m pretty sure that steam emu causes crashing. however you´re the pros, just my thought.

thanks

Thks for this shmelle :)

-- Edit --

Hello again shmelle,

revemu is looking for steamclient_valve.so on srcds_run's dir, I think you should configure it to look for it in the same dir of the steamclient_i486.so file (/bin) as you wrote on INSTALL file
all the other things seem to work perfectly.

Thanks

Hi there

my friend and me are trying to setup an dedicated server to play Left 4 Dead on.
We just can't seem to get it running, that's why we are asking you for help. :)

Can you maybe see a reason in this log why we can't connect to the server?

Thank you guys very much!

The use of this mechanism for timing can be disabled by setting RDTSC_FREQUENCY to 'disabled'.
