Whoops. I put the wrong file name in step 12. That would be why. I edited step 12 to say: Step Twelve: Extract the files from "EP1FixFiles.rar" to "C:\HL2EP\root" making sure to OVERWRITE any files. Note: this pack contains the client needed to run the game e.g. hl2.exe and also edited step 14 to make it clear that is how you run the game. ~Vista |

Where's the fun in that? Plus I already had all the files and didn't want to have to re-download everything from the PVN release - I have quite limited bandwith... |

Problems... When i run that bat from patch(just for Episode One wich is the one that i download during the Preload through steam) i don't get a .NEW file in my folder. And with a previous Bat( a GCF unlocker) Episode One had an error. That the Decription code maybe was wrong. What can i do? I tried downloaden the new Episode One but there is something wrong with the second file. I could open the first file, but i couldn't open the second one. When tested him with the 7-Zip program, it saids "is not a supported archive". |

The server can be quite un-reliable, just download the second file again and it should work. The reason there is no .new file, is because you have not extracted the origional file that must be patched (due to the second file being corrupt after download) Either that or if you were trying to directly open the episode_1_shared.7z.002 in 7zip that will not work, open episode_1_shared.7z.001, click the extract button and it should work fine. ~Vista |

It crashes for me just before it reaches the menu (after the Valve video). Anyone else have this problem or a fix for it? |

That happened to me too origionally. You need to follow step 13. (Step Thirteen: Load GCF-Scape, open "base source engine 2.gcf" extract to "C:\HL2EP1") otherwise it just hangs on the loading screen. I have edited the post to make step 13 clearer. |

This is what my directory structure looks like:
If we are suppose to have it looking different, with a *root* folder then obviously I read your directions incorrectly. |

How large is Episode One when you've extracted it? edit: i've extracted it(from 001 and 002) but i get a 7z file. I can't open it, and when i change it to GCF it gives an error. |

I think you do need to have it ep1/root then those files, I am still downloading the second half so I can't be sure. For the AIO I think it'd be a great idea, but however how will you fit all the game's content in 4.7 gb's? Thanks for fixing the tutorial Vista |

![]() If we are suppose to have it looking different, with a *root* folder then obviously I read your directions incorrectly. You've done what I did, and extracted from the left hand side, if you look at the GCFScape tree menu, you will see that there is a root folder, some people may extract it from there, either way it makes no difference, I just put it there for reference, I think i'll remove it because from what i've seen the way we both did it (not from root) seems the most common way. |
