Post subject:  Glad to be back here.

I am a bit confused on installation. So what do I need. Do I place MiniSteam in the Steam directory? I would rather not do that. All I need is the .gcf and ncf files and guide them to the directory? When I was fiddling with it the majority did not work. I just want to use this for LAN parties for people that do not have the games or have difficulty with them like I usually have.

In Steam Buster all I had to do was guide the program to the gcf.

I would be using it now, but it does not support newer games released on Steam.

Any ETA on the id games. Take your time bud. Also I read that this program does not work in Vista? Is that true?

Please confirm what I am saying.

The author of the app is somehow away right now.

Yes, the program does not work on vista.

This app supports every single steam released game, as long as you have the latest steamgames.ini file uploaded by me some posts above.

This app is as easy as steam buster. You run it, and you tell him where the gcf's/ncf's are located.

Yep. The gcf's are the game data compressed files.

Do I have to extract the game files?

For some reason it won't detect the games or cache.

I am running XP x64

Also what files are required for the files to detect. I try copying the cahce to the folder, but no go.

Look closely the folder you choose. If it asks you for your steam directory, choose your steam folder; and if it asks for your game directory, choose your steamapps folder.

It will automaticlly recognise all games, no need for extracting.

Yea, but I really do not want to do that. Like in steam buster all I need is he gcfs and it takes care of it from their, installing the game if necessary, and playing it.

I did fiddle with it once. And got it to the ready, but not extracted state. I really do not want my account disabled, (I have a lot of games I do not want to lose,) so melding MiniSteam and Steam together frightens me.

Also for LAN parties how is this going to be useful for me? Will I have to transfer the entire Steam folder to everyone's PC if they have a problem with Steam fudging over?

You don't have to extract the files. Ministeam does it automaticlly for you.

About a LAN party, I suppose you need the GCF's, unless you can make a virtual link and stuff like that and just have the GCF's in one pc and transfer them while playing, dunno.

Do I need anything from Steam though? As I tried it from the gcfs alone and I was having problems stating that it was not detecting anything. That is the problem I am having atm.

Hmm I don't think you need Steam. But you need the gcf's and/or ncf's. That's all.

I have had problems with nothing detecting when using the latest blob, while the one that comes with ministeam doesn't appearto work with HL2 single player (it get's stuck on the loading bofore the menu)
