If you can't run L4D in steam Steam try to...

- Validate the NCFs with CFToolbox and Correct them (In case They are damaged).
- Delete AppUpdateStats.blob & ClientRegistry.blob, Steam.cfg and undeadpatch installer.
- Run steam (remember that now is 100% legit).
- Let Steam update.
- Download SMD 2.0 (Direct Link / Post).
- Extract SMD and copy the files to Steam Folder.
- Run SMD.bat (Steam Cracked) or Steam.exe (Steam Legit).

Hi,

I followed instructions on this topic , I have the full and last .gcf for L4D (validated by CF toolbox).
I can launch it using cracked steam (but canno't host a lan game at this time , normal) .
But if I try to 'install it' and launch it from SBrev, it tries to launch but nothing is happening, and the game appears always as 'not installed').
If I try to launch it using UCL , it does nothing too... :( (and it warns me the gcf are not completed)
I guess I missed something ? :oops:

sade, validate your NCF files. If they're incomplete, first try to update them with CF Toolbox and if it can't, request an update.

Don't use SBReV, launch the game using its exe.
Just create a shortcut with this: "%L4DFOLDER%\left4dead.exe" -console -novid +sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0 (leave the quotes intact, just change the folder part).

Then, in the console type map MAPNAME to host a game, or connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx to join a hosted game. It works both on LAN and Internet, at least for me.

It may or may not need Steam open and logged, but you don't need to launch the game from it. With Steam open you can use the Steam Community features though.

hey all

i have a legit version of L4D on my real steam account and would like to play with my mates on LAN.
i'm wondering if i'm able to use a back up of my copy of the game, instead of downloading the files from the links provided ?

i assume i will still need to run through a "cracked" steam ?

You can use your files on your friend's machines.

Just copy the NCFs and the "Left 4 Dead" folder from "SteamApps\common" to the same location on the other PCs. It is not necessary to re-download the whole thing if you already have access to it :mrgreen:.

There is more than one way to run L4D with an illegitimate copy (or rather say, without a Steam account actually owning the game), both using a cracked Steam client and without it.
Just check in the forum. Else, I can tell you how i'm doing it

Hi there.

I installed all following the post steps, including last binary v3, but when tried to install the game from the Steam game list, I got the "The Steam servers are too busy..." etc error. I patched a fresh copy of Steam using UndeadPatch, and I have installed all Valve's games without any problem (including the last patch for TF2). I also tried the SMD thing mentioned before without success. CFToolBox tells me everything is up to date (validation done). Any ideas?

K guys this is waht i did i downloaded 6 parts + other rar file i did wht it told to do copy all to steam apps, my steam is cracked with undeadpatch, i run steam, i see left 4 dead with its not installed status, so if i click it to install -> server busy.I did what MaxGGR said, i downloaded cft toolbox i opened it, at GCF/NCF section i see 2 files from left 4 dead client binary and sound i validate them both, they are 100 % and they were 100 % before, i close it, delete 4 files MaxGGR told, run steam, steam updates, downloaded SMD 2.0 extracted to steam folder i run SMD.bat, and everything is like it was before. What do i do wrong ?? Yes, its first time i download a game for steam noob or not i need help

DUB: if is everything 100%, then i dont know why it fail :(, you should try use revEMU to start game without steam..
