Thank you for the great step by step example, but i am having a problem: when i run loader.exe it says: this application failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling may fix this problem.

And when i run fear2.exe it says application load error 5:0000065434

I edited the rev.ini folder correctly as far as i know and the simpack extracted correctly as far as i know (destination folder is 11.3 GB). I also made the steam_appid.txt folder with just 16450 entered and have that in the same folder as launcher.exe and fear2.exe

Does anyone know what i am doing wrong?




Nevermind, i fixed it. And for those who may have the same problem as me: make sure steam is running!

I also noticed that if steam is just running even at the log in screen, the game still boots up.

how do i get fear 2?

i have the DIE release...

when i start fear2 i will see this loading screen and then CRASH to windows... after a few seconds...
well i tried to start in safemode (no sound) an it starts! i tried the codec fix, but still crash to desk.

can anybody help me?

Seems like many (including me) don't extract all of the 137 files. I only had 115 extracted from the 2 DVD ISO's with SimPack without any errors and the game starts up and runs. Played for a few minutes and all is good. The only thing is I'm not using the Loader but a scene release exe. I just swap out the FEAR2.EXE and execute it. Didn't have to create no steam_appid.txt either. Maybe there is a difference on how the games is packed between the the retail ISO images and other versions floating around. Anyone here extract the 137 files from the ISO images? Care to list all the 137 files for comparison?

Here is a list of all the 115 files that I extracted from the 2 DVD ISO. The FEAR2_bak.exe is the original executable that I replaced with the cracked one.
So anyone with the 137 file version, what files are missing from mine?

I've 115 files only too!
Tested with rev-loader and worked, BUT there must be 22 more files!!!
What you've installed, Windows Vista or XP?
Could it be, that on XP are more files installed?

works like a charm!!!!!!!! i love you guys!! i used the simpack.exe for l4d and fear2 and the install_fear.bat .
it extracted just 119 files but the game works! thx!!!!!!!

I did this on XP. I don't see why it would matter. Its just extracting files.

First it was 116, then I extracted 115 and now 119. What could be the difference? Anyone do a comparison with what I posted?

why do you want a comparison? whats the use of this for you?

Anyways I think I know because I looked at the sim files and it lists all the files to be extracted. Looks like just readme.txt files in different languages. I could be wrong but I'm almost positive. There are 137 files listed in the ProjectOrigin_disk1.sim/ProjectOrigin_disk2.sim (they have the same file listings). If I subtract the duplicate readme.txt, eula.rtf and enginemsg.txt files it comes out to 115 files.
