I think i found the cause going to compile a test patch and u will report if it works

Bad news is Valve has done a ugly job on that security.
Going to explain it (From Diviton)
When you download Left 4 Dead 2 it will send the Content Server a random list of your Files in C:\Windows or wherever ur Windows dir is located at sends that the Content Server. The Content Server creates a unique binary (client.dll) which checks for those files. So if you are unlucky and it picked files that actually change it will wipe your ass out of game due that.
Its pretty gay done so I'm looking forward to get rid of those patches

like ismindx wrote works with melee. But random crashes though.
Note: If you have a 32bit System you don't have the "Wow6432Node" in that key. Just go directly into CLSID awesome! Now for the first time the game doesnt crash after the intro movies!! But well it crashes randomly during playing

You have to change the Date to 29.11. then no more crashes occur!!!
Pls someone make a sticky with this cause it fully works. look at L4d2-thread

guys, still no solution to fix problems like, picking up grenade launcher, chainsaw, cola bottles in 1st mission or for the mission mall look at this:  Ive tanked the car with all the gas tank I found....originally it only needs 1 in Easy, lolz for 13cans of 1...

Noone listens... Do you see what's on my screenshot 3 posts above? a freaking chainsaw in action and my selfmade screenshot... so why there is no solution?

With Razor1911 patch can pick all weapons, cola bottles and completed mission with car

Pls someone make a sticky with this cause it fully works. look at L4d2-thread yep, it works 100% seemingly for me now with: - razor's client.dll - the registry fix - setting date to 29th - cracked steam running - starting game with +sv_lan 1 +sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0 selecting single player from menu, using chainsaw etc., delivering cola, loading next map on saveroom ... wow!
