All the resources have been Update to v2.0.2.4 with the Best Batch of Standalone Patch.

Yes mate. Sat continously on PC for few weeks jacking up game files and finally done. NSIS -> great App :razz:

--- Part 2:

the vpk archives are just files where other files are collected. no compression
the "_dir.vpk" contains a list with all entries, names and their absolute offsets in the other files. so they all belong together
if a file is added to a sub archive (e.g. pak01_7.vpk) the editor will rebuild the whole sub archive updating its offsets in the dir-file
this means: if you add/modify or clean the archives, the offsets will have been changed.
so if you now just replace some files (like pak01_dir.vpk, or pak01_5.vpk) the offsets wont fit -->file will not be found correctly

so for updates there are 3 ways:
1) share all pak01_*.vpk files you modified
2) provide the new pak files (with their packxx_dir.vpk) as usual but dont copy them. instead use the merge future. this will merge all files from one archive to another, replacing existing ones, remaining others (like copy a folder in windows to an existing folder)
3) Just share the modified files in the archive and let the tool add/replace them (lowest filesize) (maybe i can create a comparing tool, that compares 2 vpks and copies the differences to a diff file the tool can handle.)

As mentioned the cleaning part is realy usefull to save space. How does Valve provide updates? Do they replace archives? Or do they add files to them?
If they really add them (like my tool and the VPK.exe with -m param) cleaning is save for valve updates
You may use this when you create your next master update (or the full game)

What it does: Imagine you have file1 to file3 in the archive.
So in the dir-file there is: (file1:archive:0;offset 0) ; (file2:archive:0;offset 20) ; (file3:archive:0;offset 50);
and the archive_0.vpk is just: file1.file2.file3 (all files appended)
if a file is deleted, just the entry in the dir-file is deleted. the files remains in the archive_0.vpk but unaccesable
so my tool rebuilds the archive on evry change. meaning: evry file is extracted and copied to new archive, then newarchive overwrites oldarchive
-->unaccesable are not copied (because they cant be found) -->space is saved

Well i didnt use that tool in anyways. Stuck with our old school style packing the whole dir. I didnt want another Dll ramming the sequence up.

:lol: i never disclosed it, haha :lol: Its a very good tool and you can import files into the vpks without damaging the archive.. to add the menu stuff like the server browser just edit the mainmenu.res in the /update pak01_dir, here you can also add mutations to the same pak file. you dont need to add both pak files anymore GaNi that was just my original way of doing it, you can insted just add everything to pak01_dir.vpk in update folder and keep it as an archive rather than just one new pak archive file..

Lately I've been working on l4d1onl4d2 conversion...
and have partnered with some of your garena members to work on it... small world isn't it?

Adding a custom menu to load the l4d1 campaigns is on our to do list and the info you've shared is invaluable towards that end... Perhaps you'd like to see what we are up too? Send me PM and we can talk...

I have played around a bit with rev-emu for a little while now... using it for dedicated servers [sv_lan 0]

are your achievements really working? I've seen with earlier steamclient 2009 releases that achieveemnts show, but do not change/work.

Currently I am using this rev-emu combo...
steam.dll from rev-emu v9.82
and steamclient.dll from rev-emu v9.81R4

My reason for this is that with this combo [see attachment] and using the rev.ini settings set as-is,
the Setti "Steam Group Servers" shows up on the main menu... and game loads quicker, but only for works for online play [sv_lan 0]...
and you need to comment out the stamclient.dll in this setup for singleplayer/console "map manpname" loading.

it is perhaps a little better for dedicated server players, maybe you'd like to check it out...
why doesn't the current rev-emu work this way? it would be cool if it did...

Well, i am working on a menu feature, which will show the game version. And possibly even show if your outdated. Preventing people to lag behind. Will throw some more resources in. hmm. You need a menu ? well i can work for it. I'll give you more details when i am done or started working for it. I am not currently working on a Offline-Guide/Help file. Damn, harder than coding an installer.

I was playing around with yer tool and it ended up corrupting my other pak files when I tried importing some files into it...
I will stick to the commandline for now, thanks... hope you could fix that issue if its possible.

Funny, there was supposed to be a vpk fix in the last update... i wonder what they trying to fix? :P

lol, its not his tool. You could pm to the dev satanuts. Hes in the Tunngle forum. May be he could give a fix for it.

yea as gani wrote in his first post about it a guy called hack0r made the tool, ive managed to add files without corrupting anything so i dont know what your problem could be, maybe PM hack0r on the Tunngle forum.

That's cool. I'm not worried about it... using vpk.exe is good enough for what I need it for...

As for your L4D2 Control app... its cool...
may i make a few suggestions? Maybe you could add launcher capabilities for greater customization?
I don't think this one is in development anymore [at least not that I know of]...

If you could make a launcher like that, with ability to change name/language, delete dmp files, check for updates [like your control panel does now] but add extra functionality like the launcher does: like enabling singleplayer games, loading multiplayer [you could also set option to choose sv_lan 1 or sv_lan 0 - based multiplayer], and loading listen servers...
Enable starting maps/gamemodes [including new gamemodes/mutations]... it would pretty much rock...

just a thought...

Well to be honest, it wont give a buck in Garena/Tunngle. because these clients inject VPN Module. So it useless for playing on Internet, as the launcher itself says, LAN Gaming.
