I couldn't find any tutorials so I just ask it here.

I have two different Steam accounts with TF2 on them and I want to transfer items between them. I've already tryed running steam twice by switching accounts but it didn't work because of that they were using the same files I think... Now I'm about to try running it on two different users that have steam installed separately, but I'm not sure if it will work because my IP adress is still the same. Please if you know any working methods for this share it whit me. And sorry for my crappy english. Thanks for any help.

I have tried some tricks myself. You can't run Steam twice on the same PC. I have tried Virtual PC and it didn't work.

I am also interested in a solution for this problem.

You messed something up then, it works in a VM without any problems.

Sandboxie seems to work.

I see no reason why a virtual machine shouldn't do the trick, either. After all, it's (almost) a completely isolated system.

When I said, a Virtual PC doesn't work, I meant running TF2 doesn't work. Getting Steam to run in a Virtual PC, no problem. Getting TF2 to work, that's harder.

I got BlackOps to run in a Virtual PC (Windows 7 x64). I think I was using VMware Workstation.

You got it working in virtual machine, yes, but not in "Virtual PC" - Microsoft's virtualization software.

OK, I see. Well, I have nothing useful to say regarding that. :D

One question, though... why using Microsoft's Virtual PC when there's VMWare or VirtualBox? I'm not saying you have to use this or that, I'm just curious about it, since I've always used one of those two for running virtual machines and never had any issues.

I tried VirtualBox but it did not work for me, has that changed?

I should try it again. I don't use VMWare since it's so bloated compared to VirualBox or Virtual PC.

I'd need to try it on your PC to know :D

But yes, trying it again may be worth it. Personally, I never had any issues with it...

Source games run fine (though a bit slowly) in VirtualBox.
Just try it, I guess it's enough for exchanging items or whatever.

I've just made this picture just for you:

You must be really patient, if 10 FPS is just "a bit slowly" for you.

I used version 4.0 of VirtualBox with the Expermental Direct 3D option enabled on XP.

I also used the launch option:
-sw -noborder -novid -nosound -dxlevel 81 -width 640 -height *censored AppID*

It's slow, but it worked.

Windows Virtual PC is free if you've got Windows 7. Also, it really won't work, simply to the fact that Microsoft does not offer a virtual graphics card in any virtualization software. That is, because what VMware WS and VBox do is nothing but emulating the graphics card by a detoured, purely virtual card whose performance is simply not suitable for any professional usage and VPC is primarily meant to run legacy systems in it (primarily XP) and for professional graphics virtualization, HyperV will offer a real, non-virtually detoured graphics card access starting with WS2008R2 SP1 (RemoteFx).

Also, I would not recommend to use VirtualBox for this job either, as it cannot virtualize Direct3D. Instead they built Wine3D for Windows to emulate D3D through OpenGL. So basically, VBox delivers you an emulated D3D on an emulated OpenGL graphics card. Jummy performance. VMware WS does implement D3D directly in its virtual card though, so it will be definitely faster.

"I don't use VMWare since it's so bloated compared to VirualBox or Virtual PC."
It actually isn't. VMware's size comes primarily from the amount of virtual system addins it features (these make up about 200MB) and the new download option without them is also only ~380MB. However, due to the diversity it features and due to the simple lack of quality in VirtualBox (D3D being hacked over OpenGL is only an example here), I would highly recommend VMware WS in this appliance.

OK, I see. Thanks for the info, ChrisTX. Very detailed post, as usual. :D
