Do you really know what "per employee" in that sentence means?

It's also interesting to see that Valve is being praised for "giving 70%" while Apple is being flamed for "taking 30%" when I read the news :D

Meh, Steam rules anyway.

You can't compare that. Apple and Google do have much bigger departments for services that don't generate revenue. Both need definitely more customer relations, for Google primarily business clients, for Apple retail ones. Plus, the bigger your companies' offices are, the more security, cleaning ecetera stuff you need. Or R&D devisions (ok, Google not so much).

Comparing the revenue per employee is something one can't do to give out figures of any value. It really highly depends on the business, the kind of offered services and all that. Lastly, there's the most obvious mistake in that logic: Let's say you have company A with 500 employees generating $5,000,000/pm in revenues, and being paid $2,000/pm each and company B with 50 employees generating $600,000/pm in revenues with the same payment. That'd be $12,000 vs $10,000 in per employee income. Subtracting their wages - $10,000 and $8,000 in operating income/employee - that's $4,000,000/pm vs $500,000/pm in revenues. Point is, more employees with less revenue/employee can still generate a lot more money.

Maybe you should point out that in their markets, the standards are a little inverted: Where Valve operates, taking 70% is the normal case; where Apple operates, taking nothing to little (ie Android - 10%) is the common case. Yet, I won't even make the case of Google appearing any more competitive here, either.

A bit off-topic, but you got that wrong, the media is not bashing Apple for that. It's about a cut for paid content subscription offers.

Paul Thurrott explains it quite well:
