still havent had any help with my problem:( I own the retail DVD of HL2...i have it installed perfectly on my computer, yet i would like to install it on a mates pc too, he doesnt have the net. i tried today to put it on his laptop and had the Vangance crack patch, after installing, it obviously wanted to connect to the net but couldnt so i had to cancel the account creation and file decription. anyway i tried applying the patch in the hope that it would take over from where steam left off but was just confronted by error messages regarding steam when i tried to open HL2. could someone PLEASE lay down some simple steps to getting the retail version cracked for offline/no CD use.....please! much appreciated |

Hi, just can tell you what I did: -Burned a copy of my friends retail DVD with Alcohol 120%. -Used the steam exploit to encrypt the .gcf files (the one with pulling the network cable out. ) attention: you have to pull the cable out after one bar, otherwise it won't work. After steam has copied and encrypted the.gcf files from the dvd I applied the vengeance patch, used hl2install and it worked! now if it's possible to copy the .gcf files directly I don't know. but since the steam exploit still works use that and you're fine! |

question: hl2 and cs:s work with the vengeance installer. and as it is stated there online mode is disabled. now is there a workaround to play online? if not I have to unpack the gcf's with gcfscape, but which .gcf's do I have to unpack. I only want to play cs:s with this installation. what are the right steps to get an cs:s install with which I can play online? |

gcfscape doesnt decrypt the files if they r still encoded from steam....only steam can do that right now...but u can decrypt the files for him, make a copy of your main hl2 folder, apply the css bin from your main css folder and copy that to the main hl2 folder. apply the steamengine from emporio's css version to main hl2 folder. apply the ape fix client.dll to hl2/hl2/bin folder. burn the hl2 folder to disk. have your freind take the folder off of disk and put it on his computer...then have him make a shortcut of hl2.exe to desktop and make the shortcut target -steam -console.... |

Hi I am new here I am asking this for my brother. he bought half life 2 in the shop but he can't play it because he does not have an internet connection.
so can I help him mayhemdred by downloading those files .? I have to admitt I am not familiar with this but willing to try. thanks in advance |

Vengeance released a supposed working fix for his previous CD release (this new fix/steamemu is on his DVD release). Supposed to be truely 'Offline' when installing w/ firewall or no internet/network connection: http://www.nforce.nl/index.php?m=nfo&id=80165 ====Noted from his NFO file=== *UPGRADE NOTES* These are our new installers and our new emulator v1.10 which are all found on the DVD release. This is ONLY for those who have downloaded our previous CD version. This upgrade will fix any remaining issues during offline/firewalled installation and play. It will also enable online play for cracked servers of CS: Source and enable you to host games as well. The upgraded emulator will also improve gameplay as you will read below. This release is simply the contents of the /VENGEANCE/ directory from the DVD, so as you follow the steps, when it says "from the VENGEANCE directory on the DVD", just use the files in this upgrade. Read the NFO carefully and follow exact instructions. Good luck. .... and he mentions: Please note that the previous release DOES work, if you have your internet connection active and your firewalls off. ========END================ |
