may have been asked before!

how do i mod my CS1.6 from steam??

i dont have extracted,, but i have legit cs1.6 in steam

so can i mod them files?? cuz then i can play on all servers!

Download CS: Decayed, then install it as mod. Choose the installation directory according to your system. For example, if you username was XXX, install it to C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\XXX\counter-strike. Some computers have Steam in C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam. Just make sure you choose the counter-strike folder inside your SteamApps folder.

In Decayed 2, I will try to make it automatically detect, but such a script is a pain in the arse to program using Astrum Installer rofl.

Bump. Just to inform you that I have cut about 25MB more off the filesize, I'm going to upload a Beta version. It should be up by tomorrow. First screenies coming up now :P

EDIT: Because Decayed Lite is so god damn small, I have decided to upload right here on RIN instead.

btw people waiting on cs:d lite. CS writes to the registry, and if a computer at school dissables writing to the registry the launcher i made for cs:d lite will be able to bypass that. its all good. im also gonna include some tweaks so running on a usb wont slow you down too much.

be ready to see a portable LAN version of doom 2 and starcraft, to add to your usb drive :D

I've done some performance tweaks. If you run it OpenGL you might be able to run it :P

But anyway - the first Beta of CS: Decayed Lite is out. It's on FileFront as usual, please read the first post for instructions on running this Beta. Please give me feedback on bugs etc.

CS Decayed Lite is awesome for its size!

Small problem I encountered was a memory read error when I tried launching hl.exe (with shortcut and everything).

I fixed this by replacing it with a copy from your previous release of Cs Decayed.

Everything works great now!

The FileFront link of CS: Decayed Lite Beta 1 is giving me this message when I'm trying to download:


"Your download has failed. There were no available download servers. Click here to try your download again."


Propably it's just temporary, I'll try downloading it again later. I decided to post this just to let you know in case the problem won't get solved by itself. :wink:


By the way, making and releasing the full .wad file patch is a very good idea, I strongly recommend it. I bet there's a lot of people who wants to play custom maps with CS: Decayed Lite without any problems (at least I'm one of them :P). That is, if it's not too much asked. :) If you can't or you don't want to make it for some reason or another, it's fine too, I'll manage with this problem. :wink: :P


EDIT: Oh and thanks a lot for filling my request about adding A r u's bot profile in your release of CS: Decayed Lite, much appreciated. :D

You even have problems with some custom maps if you remove too much from the hl1 content..so you prolly can't make a small rip which is compatible with custom maps.. and decayed.cell even removed some maps.. I think this is very useful for competition gaming ;)

Yeah, you're absolutely right. The custom maps in CS doesn't only use the .wad files from HL1 but sounds and other files too. Damn, I forgot about that.

Well, now when I'm thinking it again, I don't see a point making and releasing that full .wad file patch Decayed.cell has mentioned in the first post since it won't solve everything when trying to use the custom maps.

Practically this means that you would be forced to make a patch which would include every CS/HL1 file you have removed from your release(s) to make them smaller (the HL1 maps, their overviews, media files and such files which are never used by CS can be left out from the patch) in order to gain the full functionality in CS custom maps.

Therefore I don't recommend doing it, it's too much of work and a waste of precious time. Besides, the people who want everything to work 100% perfectly, can (and will) download the other CS 1.6 Non-Steam releases (there's plenty of them around), for example the one made by REVOLUTiON Crew. :wink:

Well, if there are some really popular custom maps that like heaps of people play, I'll add the needed sounds and textures if need be. Quite frankly, custom maps only use a handful of stuff, so it wouldn't be much effort at all.

Props to decayed.cell for making an awesome non bloated 1.6 release that works well. (CS : Decayed, will currently be testing CS DL.)
