I had that error and I can guarantee you it's not caused by Xlive.dll Re install the game again, apply crack (any you want) and Xlive DLL and try again.

The game is working if I remove Xlive.dll and install GFWL client. I encountered same issue last month when GOTY came out. I wasn't really bothered about it at that time because I knew I'd reinstall Windows soon. But now I'm getting the same error even on my fresh Win7 install. So I don't think reinstall would help considering it didn't work on my previous Win7 install, and is still not working on my fresh install as well as Win8 RTM.

Weird then. I had that error when I moved the game's folder to another place, then, uninstalled and tried it without ANY registry key at all. But, now that I think of it, I removed GFWL too and left xlive.dll alone.....

Gears of War can be played online with a K&L key via GFWL, so it's one of the few exceptions where GFWL can be tolerated, in my opinion.

Thanks so much for your xlive file, I've spent ages looking for ways to save BAC in windows 8 because GFWL refused to show up in game to allow me to create profile.
THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!

I pasted xlive.dll in the root folder, and after that my game crashes every time i exit a campaign, is that supposed to happen? i know its a problem caused by the xlive.dll since i have tried with and without it. and even after i paste the xlive.dll, play the game and save it, the xliveemulator doesnt show on the registry editor like the tutorial said, any solutions?

First, please specify which game you are talking about. Second, the emulator is far from complete, so problems are to be expected. Third, the registry key shows up only if you run as administrator, and it's only useful in case you wish to change your name or enable DLC.
