same here, yesterday it worked...

-- Edit --

GOT IT WORKING!

you can use your friendslist to join a game!!

i had civ5 open and tabbed to win and clicked friendslist.
then i joined my friend who was hosting and in the background i was joining the game of my friend! ;)

-- Edit --

btw...
friendslist only works if you have entered a serial for a game in steam!

the user "Waats" has a mediafire link in his signature for unlocking friends on smartsteam.

you must disable your antivirus for this!

Thanks for the guide and updates, but you should probably just link the keygen to AI War from Waats's post:

It's much easier than doing all that Polish proxy/registration stuff. Just generate a key from the keygen, in Steam go to Games > Activate a Product on Steam and paste the key. You don't need to install the game, just press cancel and the Friends list will be active.

It worked for me, but VirusTotal does seem to think it's a trojan, so perhaps run the exe with something like Sandboxie.

with avg antivirus, it was just not opening (nothing happened) and then after some time it was deleted and avg wanted to reboot. so it was not directly saying "theres a virus" but doing it all in the background (including a short system scan)...

A friend of mine is having an issue with not being able to click the multiplayer -> internet button, it gives him an error about not having steam running or lacking an internet connection, both of which he has. I've had this issue in the past, but a reboot fixed it, he's tries rebooting 4-5 times and it still has not helped.

Any ideas?

I have tried to find an answer to this but noone seem to have the same problem.
When I try to change the steam_appid in my civilization folder I am unable to save. It say that the file can't be made and that name of the file is incorrect.
I have done everything else and I am able to log in to multiplayer in the game but no games are available there and I guess it is because my steam_appid is 8630 not 33310.

What am I suppose to do??

apparently the guys over at STEAM changed the app_id again (it's no longer 33310) and that's why multiplayer is unavailable this time.

anyone knows how to find out the current app_id?

It's a win7 access control issue. you can try to take ownership of the file or log on as administrator. Another way is to copy the file to your desktop, edit it there, then delete the file in program files, then copy the edited file back in. It just doesn't wan't you changing files. Or , the best solution is to not install the game into c:\program files. I installed to D:\. That way you don't get the access denied error.

This must be what happened. I am just getting a blank server list in internet games and I've followed the instructions to a T. Any other possibilities? Do I need to have a port forwarded or something?
