You need to purchase a game (any cost), add money to Steam wallet (Can use cards?) or use a CD Key to activate Steam Friends. Free games (like Portal and Faerie Solitaire) will NOT work.

thanks guyz...

alien ware gave me the key and it worked..

now i can add friends :)

but i want to know

is this code totally normal or the key is just made for adding friends..

because when i launch cs or any game ,it dose not change my status
it just show "online" :/
nither i can connect to steam servers..

so do i have to buy every game, to activate that feature...

Yes, you have to buy the game if you want to play online.
