Removing LAN playing really sucks. I've dealt with hundreds of people who wanna play online with their friends but have serious issues with routers that act like firewalls with no uPnP and it's quite a bother for all of them. I often gather with my buddies and play games in LAN. I'm in a place where the ISP offers you very limited monthly bandwidth, and an online game with Voice Chat can certainly drain that traffic. I mute everyone out, but some sign off, others sign in... I wanna play, not click Mute all the time. Speaking of LAN gameplay in General, Cooperative gaming is MUCH more better in LAN than over the internet. I've played lots of strategic games Online, and the gameplay experience is seriously degraded while Online.

You are right about that. That's a problem that I have faced with before, but is it the game or having bad/no internet is causing the problem? I rather blame the lack of internet instead of the game to be honest.
