How do I share photos with my friends and comment on them.. well we share our entire collection of mutually interesting photos (which would be trips together) and then use IMs, or send single pictures while using IMs. None of my friends are on Facebook nor do I think most of them are actually active on other social networks. You might have a disadvantage of some sort some time if you don't use these networks, but I care more about my privacy. I don't care about staying in touch with unimportant people, I leave such things up to chance. People that you don't stay in touch with in other ways than social networks, why would you stay in touch with them in the first place? When I see these Like buttons everywhere and when I see comments on network profiles, I mostly feel like puking. Hundreds of people that don't know each other personally are all over each other's comments, it's so retarded. "You have no friends", "You have 500 friends", "we eat all your private data and showcase it to the world because you are too stupid to have a problem with that".

People against social networks immediately start talking about extreme cases, like barbies, emo, etc.

About privacy - if someone wants, he may still fake your identity or upload your photos somewhere, even if you don't have any accounts on such sites yourself.

I use facebook quite often. I don't play those stupid games, I don't have any people I don't know in my list but I still find something useful in there. Sharing photos, creating events, creating useful groups - why not?

It's not facebook (or other social networking sites) that you don't like - it's people that are using it. But you can't run away from stupid people, wherever you are, anyways.

So, as long as you're sane and find it useful, I don't see how social networking sites can be bad.

True gecka, but i think that social networks are what's attracting those people in first place.
I think social networks were meant to be a place where people can join and find other people, therefore making a "Social network".

That would make any type of person join any specific network to find and become part of some Internet social circle, as in, like a social network that bases itself around a country or a subject, such as video games (eg. steam community, local social networks), or in our case one huge social network that's based on an international network for people.
Now by itself, a social network is not necessarily a bad thing, but still the point of having one remains the same, therefore it will bring people we dislike. Unlike in a forum with a set of rules that can simply filter those people out, unless they choose to comply and don't act like that.

Now in our case we're talking about facebook.
Facebook, from what i understand, is a giant international social network that brings all sorts of people form all sorts of places on the Internet and maybe even RL, into one social network.
That makes lots of people we dislike along with people we do like (like our friends or colleges) be in one place, which is not a bad thing.

But i think the thing with facebook is that it actually indirectly encourages behavior that we dislike, moreover it actually encourages people to compromise on their privacy as well.
Combined together, you can actually make people do retarded stuff without them knowing, like commenting like a retard on photos ("LOOOL you look funnehz lol", "OMMG THAT LOOKS AWESOEME"), play retarded social games (Farmwille, crap surveys, shitty browser based mmo's) and share all sorts of crap nobody cares about (how someone feels at the moment, what someone is doing every five minuets, shit that happens to people etc').

Now, on contrary of what the tone of this might be implying, it's not that of a bad thing since that behavior can be contained in a place like facebook, making us not having to see any of it in other places on the Internet we do like.
Like Rin for example.
But because people do crap like this, crave to share private things with others and seek attention in general, facebook seems to be like a bad place sometimes, like you've said. And because of that people might choose not to visit such a place and witness it all. They might even choose to dislike or even hate it for what it is sometimes.

So, to make everything short, a social network like facebook can show you behavior that some might not like and not only from random people, but your friends as well, that's why some choose not to visit it.
Some might even find facebook as a useless thing that can only offer you encouragement for privacy disclosure or things like that, and not like it for that reason.

If your real identity is not part of your internet acitivities or if you don't want it to be more than absolutely necessary, social networks are not something you want to use.

That's exactly my situation.I just don't trust the internet.
I don't mind social networks.But that's probably because I don't encounter them too often,or I just don't pay attention to them.

I should frame this post and hang it on my wall. I totally agree.

Yeah, but this is a local group and I know this group very closely. That's why I wanted to point it out.

Note: I wasn't involved and was very surprised to see someone posting Apple logos lol.
