Absolutely! It's what used to drive the game industry and gave gamers something to look forward to, all the time. Ever since ps3 and 360 came out and the big industry players moved their focus there, most of the games on pc are ported from consoles and keep on looking the same since 2006. That's why crysis which is the last triple A, high budget fps game made just for pc, is still the best looking game out of them all, even though the game was released almost 4 years ago.

The graphics is not the most important thing for me... For me is important the gameplay, feeling, soundtrack etc,I don't judge a game by graphics...

I know of a few games I would love to play that for their time was graphically impressive but my hardware fails. However, I still think that most games these days are more about being graphically impressive versus being long and worthwhile in terms of gameplay.

i have a pc that can run any game on high pretty well and i still prefer playing minecraft and dwarf fortress sometimes. eyecandy games are great sometimes but if the gameplay sucks, i play it for the eyecandy some time and usually stop playing it before finishing (-> the "wow"-effect wears off)

I got the appropriate hardware and still the games I mostly play ran on my old computer with a GF6610XL. Graphics are totally unimportant to me. Sure, a game with a good story and gameplay is more enjoyable with better graphics, but graphics don't make a game.
Actually, I find that most games made for their graphics, like Crysis are hyped. Remember when Doom III came out? Everyone was stunned by its graphics and that was all. Seriously, let's say in 5 years from now, when the graphics of newly released games will beat anything we know by far again, would you still play Crysis?
Graphics are important in the aspect that they add to the ambience and expirence of that paticular game.. it all depends on genre and the type of game it is. FPS games tend to lean toward high graphics while RPGS range from graphics like in fallout 3 to stylised viewed in WoW, so it really all depends on the game, also soundtrack and ambience also add to the immersion of the game. Too many people judge a game by the type of graphics it uses , but what they don't understand is that games are nothing more than a book, a very elaborate book but in any case they all tell a story, But in a game the devs are not only story tellers they are sculpters and painters and muscians.. games are the collective art from many sources brought together to form a sort of musical composition. and like art we all have our opinions.. we may like a vango painting but hate the work of lianardo davinchi,
Case point all games are good and take time and effort. But wether we like them or not is really up to the persons own opinion. Graphics do play a role in a game but they do not make the game.
