The parents of my girl friend buyed a PC and offered someone 500 € to build one. That guy apparently built the PC with a Gigabyte motherboard with a i3-530 and 4Gb RAM on it. So far I could see there was no video card bought. To be honest I didn't check it either.

Well until recently their Windows 7 appeared to work fine, until yesterday her parents asked me to take a look at it because Windows gave a message their Windows 7 copy was not legitimate or genuine. Well they are currently using Windows 7 Ultimate. I was hoping someone would know where I could get them a product key that works.

I am currently using a OEM Windows 7 Home Premium from Dell which also works on a Gigabyte EQ45M-S2.

So I have two options:
- Downgrade Ultimate to Home Premium (please tell me how if possible), so I can use my OEM product key
- Someone willing enough to trust me with their legitimate Ultimate product key.

As far as I know product keys from keygens don'T work forever. So I would like a permanent solution to their problem. I honestly don't know how long a Windows 7 loader will remain to work properly, but I can use all help I can get. They are fair people, and they paid for their computer, however the guy they bought it from has disappeared. So the only legal option is the first one but I don't know if that is possible.

If it has an OEM certificate, that would work. However, if the computer wasn't delivered with an OEM installation of Windows 7, then that is unlikely. Yet, you cannot downgrade without a clean install.

Any key has only a limited amount of activations, so that is at best "unlikely".

There are no keygens for Windows 7 that would generate you activatable keys.

They do, more or less. Of course, it could occur that Microsoft would release a new anti-piracy mechanism, but they didn't do anything against loaders from what I know so far. Only RemoveWAT et al. were their target group.

Did they buy Windows 7 with it? If so, is the system not genuine or is it simply not activated? If somebody 'builds' a computer at home, then you don't have any warranty nor is it likely to be an OEM installation. (I'd doubt that, because a private citizen cannot possibly get a legal OEM activation).

Furthermore, Windows 7 Ultimate retails at 319.99€. If you buy a computer for 500€, it is unlikely to include Windows 7 Ultimate.
If they already have an older Windows license, you could also buy a Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade for 119.99€ or a Family Pack (3x Home Premium upgrade) for 149.99€.

That might be one of the cracked versions of Win 7 from the net. The genuine warning appears after one of the updates are installed. I've applied a newer loader and it was gone.

That is possible; as I said, Microsoft encountered RemoveWAT etc with KB971033, however, reapplying RemoveWAT or switching to a loader ( personally, I would not recommend license file tampering, ie RemoveWAT, but rather a loader, as that isn't very intrusive ) will fix the issue.

However, it might also simply be the case that the Windows 7 version installed wasn't activated at all. After 30 days, when the grace period runs out, Windows would be non-genuine, too.

So I can also lose my OEM product key by reinstalling windows 7 too much? I do it like every month.

I know it has a Gigabyte motherboard with H55M and a i3-530 CPU.
I encountered a few SLIC mods. But I wondered if it was worth doing a SLIC mod.

After all if I had the money I would buy them a Home Premium.

I know they have a retail XP Professional license. But their seller claimed it would never work.

I am unsure but, when I download windows 7 professional from ma3d.com, i receive a product key in my mailbox, i was wondering if that was a legit key or it is just for some kind of trial.

An OEM-SLP key is a pseudo key, just like the KMS ones are. They are only used for PID generation and triggering their specific activation methods. OEM-SLP is activated by the presence of a SLIC table, and not by contact with Microsoft.

Your own risk. If you brick it, your bad. It's as simple as that with SLIC mods.

An OEM channel version (non SLP one) costs 80€. If one can afford a 500€ computer, then one can also afford that.

XP could not use the 4GiB RAM entirely. You need a version of Windows which supports that much memory for it to entirely work.

I would highly doubt you could buy it over that channel, since Microsoft Student requires a university confirmation, just like pretty much every other Microsoft educational program does.

If you want to pirate, get a loader. Otherwise, buy a retail-channelled OEM version.

My serial of 7 Home Premium also works on a retail motherboard of Gigabyte EQ45M-S2. I didn't apply any mods to it.

I will try downgrading Ultimate to Home Premium and then try activating it with my serial key.

If that does not work I will probably need a SLIC mod for GA-H55M-UD2H Rev 1.3

The latest bios version is F11. I prefer the Dell SLIC mod so I can use my serial.
The thing is I never did a SLIC mod before, but I am pretty much smart enough to do it.

I made the bios with Award Tool 1.50 with the SLIC dumped from my Dell Studio 1558. I am however scared to use it. Award Tool verified the SLIC + certificate combination works. So the question is should I try using that moddified BIOS?
